Are you playing back in draft quality or full? Sorry if it sounds like a basic question but it’s amazing how many things that look like glitches are just due to draft quality playback.

The bug in 6 was fixed in 6.0.3 as well, I only mentioned it as 6 was the only version i know that’s had a problem with folders.

Yes you can, I organise all my projects with folders. There was a bug in MC 6 which stopped you putting folders inside folders whilst in the Avid but you could get round this by doing it at the finder level. No such issues in 6.5.

I’ve had this and a restart usually sorts it, if not, download appcleaner and drag the media composer application folder into it and it should clear it completely from your system.

  • Oh I forgot you can do Avid DNx in MPEG Streamclip.

Import your clip to Mpeg streamclip

    Export to quicktime

select Avid DNxHD codec – select the correct resolution in the options e.g. 1080p/29.97

If you’re working in a 24p project you’re going to have to import any footage of a different frame rate into it’s own separate project, so 29.97 footage into a 29.97 project. Then open the bin with that footage from within your 24p project. When you drop the 29.97 footage on your timeline it will have a dot to show you that it’s got a motion effect on it. If you click on the clip and open the motion effect editor you can promote the effect in order to change the type to fluid motion (which will give the nicest playback)

That’s the method in media composer, I don’t know what features are available in xpress pro.

Where are the clips you transcoding from? – straight from card or from a drive?

You can do the transcode through squeeze and transfer to your mxf folder if you want keep avid running.
