How effective Fluidmotion and other slomo plugins are have a lot to do with the footage you’re using, I cut a lot of fashion promos and when the client wants the half speed look but it’s been shot at 25fps I generally use Timewarp. If you have big camera moves as well as lots of movement by the subject you’re going to have problems, also if the subject is wearing clothes that flow a lot then that can be difficult. If the distortion is only on a couple of frames I remove Timewarp from those frames and start it again after, as its only a couple of frames you can’t notice the speed change, it works particularly well if the distortion is caused by lights.

No matter what you use you’re going to have a problem with artifacts and distortion, there’s no substitute for shooting at a high frame rate I’m afraid.

If you hit the render effect button it will only render the effect you’ve selected or where the playhead is. if you want to render your entire timeline, you mark it then right click on the timeline and select render in/out.

    Hi Kevin,

I might be wrong but I think you’re over complicating things, if you drop the colour effect on to V1 and then change the hue in Chroma Adjust to the colour you want, then drop the Spectra Matte on to your duplicate on V2, key out the shirt, then it should just be a matter of adjusting the tolerance.

Apologies if it’s more complicated, it’s bee a while since I’ve used that technique as I always just cheat with secondaries 🙂

  • Agreed, tbh I’ve always thought the limitations were a way to promote a pro tools workflow.

The only other workaround would be to create a unique track for the clip where you can add multiple RTAS effects, not the most elegant of solutions and could get a bit out of hand if you had lots of clips to work on.

  • Hi there,

Not sure why you’re having problems adding a dissolve, if you’ve got a clip with an AS plugin on it you can add a dissolve (Maybe I’m missing something). As for multiple AS plugins on clips unfortunately you have to do an audio mixdown (In special on the toolbar) of the first effect then add the next to the new clip.

Found this over at the Avid forum

    https://community.avid.com/forums/t/109695.aspx

Apparently if you change the order of your monitors it will fix the problem.

    Odd one.

Like Glen mentioned you can perform a ripple delete by selecting any clip on the timeline then hitting delete or the backspace key, you just have to make sure the Extract/Splice in button of the smart tool (broken yellow arrow) is active. If only the Lift/Overwrite button (Red Arrow) is active, delete/backspace will lift the clip, if both are active delete/backspace defaults to the Lift/Overwrite button. If there is an effect on the clip, you will have to have to hit delete a couple of times, as you have to delete the effect first.

As long as the clip isn’t linked to an audio clip only the video clips on that track will ripple back and you won’t have to select/deselect any tracks.

You just have to be aware that if you have clips on another track they won’t ripple back, so you’ll have to mark and extract.

    Hope that make sense.
