Hi Steve-
You might try updating to the latest version of RED to see if that resolves the issue. Feel free to contact us in support if that doesn’t work.-James

Hi Steve-
You might try validating the font book on your Mac. Open Font Book from your applications folder, highlight all of the Fonts in the All Fonts Collection, go to the File Menu, and hit Validate Fonts. After the process completes remove any problematic fonts that come up, close font book, and try to open your project in RED.If this doesn’t solve the issue you’ll want to contact us in support directly. Please be sure to include a link where we can download your project file to take a look at in house.

Hi Steve-
Check out the tutorials on RED’s section of Boris TV, they’re a great place to start from. Paul Ezzy’s video on Custom Title Animation might be particularly useful to you as it is done from a Sony Vegas perspective. If you have any further questions you can always contact us in support, we’ll be happy to help you with specific questions.
Best,

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to launch in advanced mode directly in the current release. However, we’ll look into adding that to the next update.Best,

Sorry to hear that the program isn’t meeting your expectations. Check out the tutorials here, they might be of some help!
As for the crash you’re seeing, if you contact support directly one of us will happily get back to you privately to work out why it’s happening and what can be done about it. -
Hi Bob-
It sounds like 6.0.3 got partially uninstalled previously. You might look in C:/Program Files/Boris FX Inc./ to see if there is any listing for Avid FX. If you don’t see anything there this is a case to contact us directly in support to work out.
If need be, please fill out the form found here and one of us in support will get back to you ASAP! -

Upon further investigation we were able to find an export setup for RED that does respect text over an alpha layer.Export a Movie file using the AVI Direct Show movie type at the uncompressed 32bit compression setting. Make sure you have your alpha set to Straight Alpha, that you have no fields, and hit export.
The standalone file will have a black background and upon import it will be the same. If you right click on the clip and select properties, under the media tab of the subsequent window you will see an alpha option, change that to straight and you you should be good to go!
My apologies for the confusion and jumping the gun in my original answer.

What your trying to accomplish isn’t entirely possible by the workflow you described. You might try applying Boris RED directly to your media within Vegas and then using Vector Text to add your title over your clip. Hit Apply once you’re done and you should be all set. Hope this helps!

Hi Nicoremo-
If you change the speed of the animation to accelerate mode or change the interpolation to a curved mode you might get the results your looking for.-James
