I use an old version of Sony Vegas with my job, but if this new one comes out with ProRes support, I’ll be recommending they upgrade as well as possibly buying one myself!

Is there a link to one of these products that you’d be able to give me??
I have a possible solution that’ll cost us about $500, but to sell it to the guy who pays for it I want to have these other solutions that cost so much more to show him that my custom solution will be much better…

One thing I’d love is the ability to render into ProRes myself… My broadcast server loves prores but I love Vegas, which means I either need to render my video, then transfer to an apple machine and then run it through another render on there to get it to prores, or I can use another format that my broadcast server doesn’t like as much but will work with..

I’ve been using an older (probably about 3 year old) windows based dell server, it has 32 gb of ram and 8 cpu cores (2.8 ghz). it never uses more then 3.5 gb of the memory… even when i’m rendering multiple files at one time…
For example, I’m rendering two video files on it right now at the same time and it’s only using 2.94 gb of ram according to the system monitor and all the cores are at 100%…
now, my rendering is basicly just converting it from one video format to another with a single video overlay and very minor audio effects (just adding a compressor)… so that may account for such a small amount of memory usage, i don’t know…
Just my thoughts for all of you out there…
I have had it going to up to 5 renders all at the same time, and it still used less then 4.5 gb of memory, though I don’t remember the exact amount..
Hope this gives some insight for you…

I have worked for a television network for several years and have had to do many things on small budgets as well as having large facilities to use so I’m used to an always having to meet requirements given constantly changing budgets…

I agree with Angelo, but would like to add that the green screen should be smooth so as not to have shadows from wrinkles… Also, the screen needs to have separate lighting so its even colored on camera…
I noticed in your pic that the screen is all wrinkled and each wrinkle changes the color and makes keying harder…
A stronger keyer as Angelo suggested will help but you can do more to help too…

I don’t know about other’s perspectives, but for important things I tend to make two versions of the program… I will make both 4×3 and 16×9…
Depending on what you’re doing it for, sometimes I just do one or the other…
Right now, I’m working more on engineering for a new tv network that’s being built and acording to the way they want to do things I keep everything in the 4×3 safe areas for now…
It might be worth it for you to discus it with your clients for each project to see how they want it… Maybe have a sample of a 16×9 thing using the 4×3 safe area where it doesn’t look great to show them how it’s not great… might even be able to charge more to do it for both that way too since you’d be making it one way, then changing it around to be safe in the other way too and then they have two videos to broadcast depending on the medium it’s going to be in…
Just my thoughts…
