Sounds like you could use a Sweep NURBs, and animate the Growth parameter. Draw your splines from the starting point to the destinations and make each one an animated sweep.

I used Fit to Region to map the texture onto the stream of arrows (I have two other textures covering different areas also. I don’t think that’s causing a problem, and the texture grid seems to cover everything. It’s weird. But here’s something – I may have solved the problem (well, I say “solved,” but I still don’t really know what actually caused it). I’ve been using Make Preview to preview little slices of animation to make sure everything was working, and had the anti-aliasing set to None. I went in and set it to Geometry, and it seems to be working correctly now. Strange problem.

Thanks, Jeremy. This seems to work. It’ll take a little tweaking to get it just right, but I think it’ll work.

March 31, 2010 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Spline wrap not in same position as spline

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried it and it works.

On experimenting further, I found that with the Spline Wrap the spline you use has to be closed. I was using an open linear spline with the spline wrap, and got the offsetting. But when I closed the linear spline, the arrows then were on the spline, but they were going in both directions instead of just one. The spline was a straight line, so this wasn’t what I wanted.

Using a Spline Effector I could put the arrows on the open linear spline, and animate them, too. Great suggestion!

Thanks, Adam. That’s exactly what i want to do.

Thanks, Adam, that seems to have done it. It changed the look of it somewhat but it’s still good, and I can use it this way. I’m not sure I really understand why changing it to UV (2D) worked, but it did.

Thanks, Adam. It is all noises. I went through and found that they were all set to Texture, so I changed them to Object, just to see if it would affect the mapping, and there doesn’t seem to be any difference. I’ve put a file called Mapping.c4d on my ftp site here:

    ftp://ftp.whoi.edu/whoinet/graphicsftp/jcook/

It has a plane with the material, and another plane under it with just dark blue. It’s the top plane that has the problem. If you can look at it and discover somthing, that would be great.

    thanks

Ah, too bad. I used to use it in Cinema 9 on the Mac. Oh well.

Is there a version that works in Cinema 11?

The plugin Add the Sea will do this easily. Here’s a link to their website:
