  • Arrows along a spline, that conform to the spline

I want to animate arrows moving along a spline, and have them bend as the go around the spline’s curves. I used to do this with MSA, but in Cinema 11 I can’t get the arrows to bend anymore with MSA. So I’m trying to do it using Mograph. I’ve searched the forum and found various suggestions, but they don’t cause the arrows to bend.

I’ve got an arrow, subdivided along its length. I put it into a Cloner object and specified the spline as the object, and animated using the offset. Works great, except that the arrows don’t bend. I also tried using a Spline Effector, but no bending there, either.

So then I tried using a Spline Wrap on the arrow. That makes the arrow go around the spline, and bend as it goes. Great, but it will only work on one arrow. I tried putting the arrow with the Spline Wrap into a Cloner, but that doesn’t work at all. I also tried various ways of trying to put the arrow into the Cloner, or a bunch of duplicates, and the Spline Wrap also, as a child of the cloner, but that doesn’t work either.

The only thing that I’ve found that works is to put the arrow into the cloner, make many clones, then use Convert to Current State to make an object, select all the arrow clones and connect them. Then they are one object and the Spline wrap will do what I want it to. The only thing is that it’s pretty much trial and error whether I’ve made enough clones in the first place to fill the spline evenly. Does anyone know of an easier way to accomplish this?

    Sorry for the long post.
    thanks,
    Jack
