Normally, I wouldn’t have much problem doing that, but in this case, it’s kind of a long sequence, it’s already gone through the gauntlet of government approvals, and the turn-around is fairly quick.

Hmm, I am open to all suggestions. You would think there would be some way just to type in your in/out on the new clip of the time code.

Could I possibly delete the old clip, redig the new clip, name it the exact same name as the old clip and then, relink?

That sounds like a giant file. Why is it 52gigs? Is it 720×480? How long is the animation? Also, I don’t know where you are in your project, but it is also possible to have an “underendered” ae project import into Encore, using Adobe’s dynamic link. Try that.

    In Encore:
File>adobe dynamic link>> import After Effects Composition

August 6, 2007 at 7:17 pm in reply to: Creating an action to run on multiple layers

That did work! Thank you! I ended up creating an action to save a .jpg. But I still had to go through and do it one layer at a time manually. This is perfect. Thanks! It will be a great help in the future.

Now… I don’t mean to press my luck… heh, heh, heh… but I don’t suppose you know of a way, that I can name the layers and then when I use the script you just discussed, I can save the layer by their name?

    Thank you again,

May 16, 2007 at 12:15 pm in reply to: FCP to AVID, computer says no

Just to make sure we haven’t missed anything simple…
On your Avid, are you sure that the pc just isn’t seeing your drive because you have too many of your drive letters taken up? You may just need to manage your drive, and assign it a different drive letter. Avids are synonymous for this.

    1) Plug your drive in.
    2) Click “my computer” right click
    3) select “manage”
    4) select “disk management”
    5) search for your external drive. If you see it in the bottom right window, right click it, and select “change drive letter and path”
    6) a window will pop up and then select “change”
    7) select a new letter from the drop down and then see if your drive mounts.

I used to cross work on pc’s and mac’s all the time, and this was a common problem.

    Hope that helps.

  • hahahahaha, I agree. I have already cleaned the heads on the deck thinking that was the problem. Nope, still happening. So, then I thought I would switch decks, still getting the same problem. It is definitely Adrenaline. I totally need help with this. It’s killing my work flow!

  • Yeah, but see here’s the rub. I already have it all online at work. I just wanted to be able to transcode it to DV25, edit at home, then have the sequence I used at home, relink to my 2:1 video back here in the office. I have already spent the time digitizing at low res, doing the initial rough cut, and then up-resing to 2:1. But still, haven’t found a real solid solution to my problem

  • I wasn’t able to make it automatically connect. But what I did find out the hard way, is that even though I was able to transcode my project, many of the advanced effects that I use at work, I do not have at home. Therefore practically making it useless for me to bring home. For example, the project I’m working on is completely on greenscreen, and I used Spectramatte to key all of my clips out. So once I came home, booya, no spectramatte, no video. Also, Xpress doesn’t have a 3D effect in the “blend” mode, again, “booya” no effect, no video. 🙂 So, it’s like my express is only good for beginning projects, not continuing to work on them.

    Does anyone have any advice?

  • I duplicated my original sequence, and placed it into another bin.
Highlighted all of the video clips I wanted to transcode, right clicked the highlighted clips and selected “consolidate/transcode”.
Transcoded my video to DV25, and saved them to my external drive – Avid created duplicates of it, and renamed them – Avid kept both resolutions online
I took my test DV25 video and put it into my new test sequence. Then I selected the sequence in the bin, right-clicked, selected “relink”, and chose “Specific Resolution” from the drop down menu
and “Relink if Quality is ‘greater than or equal to’, ‘2:1’.
The only thing I unchecked was “create a duplicate sequence”.
    Select OK
Avid then went through and found my 2:1 video and replaced the DV25 footage in my sequence.

This is great news incase you ever need to work from home!
