Keep in mind that it’s not 100% compositing. It’s 30/30/30. 30% shooting your footage with the action necessary for a gunshot scenario, 30% editing to cover your composite and then 30% compositing. If you did everything right, your audience won’t question that this is a special effect but show concern for the dead actor.

I know I’m still mourning Agent Curtis Manning who lost his life on “24” last night.

Use your luminance matte as a track matte for an adjustment layer with the Transform effect on it. Use the scale on the Transform effect.

I only “think” this will work.

Save yourself a lot of headache and spill some $1.99 glitter into a big glass o’ water and video tape it. That’s the easiest way to get the impression of glitter in water.

Use a black BG and a light source close to the glitter.

    Tape some reference.
Throw a couple photos onto a table, observe what happens frame by frame. Expressions won’t really simulate the subtleties of the animation you’ll need to create.
Never draw anything you can trace, never trace anything you can copy.

I don’t know. Maybe use the Play button in the Time Controls panel.

The text is treated with a ramp and some curves, maybe a color overlay for the yellow.

The animation of the text being drawn is done with masking. Probably using Vector Painted layer set as a track matte. On top of that there’s a particle emitter with the particles set to “star”. On top of that it looks like there’s a glowey ball slaved to the particle emitter.

    Probably took 2 hours.

    Any help?

HECK YES! The integrated workspace is one of the greatest upgrades since I started using AE.

Give this a try. Gold has a pretty distinct shine, but what-the-hey. It’s a start.
