Are you sure your clips are from an NX5? This is an AVCHD camcorder and records .mts files. You wouldn’t use XDCAM Browser. You would use Content Management Utility or Content Browser with the appropriate plugin.

Note that CB is basically an update of XDCAM Browser with AVCHD support.

Same procedure but on the FS100 you access from Menu–>Camera Set–>Auto Black Balance. Do this 5-6 times after the camera has been powered on for at least an hour..

you can only edit those fields on registered (i.e. part of a disc image) HD clips in the .MXF or .MP4 format

they are EX files rewrapped to .mov by one of the transfer plugins). FCP wants.mov files so when you import using L+T, XDCAM Transfer or XDCAM Browser the EX .mp4 file wrapper is replaced with a QT .mov wrapper. the files stay in their native codec (EX), which FCP supports. you can edit in the EX codec or convert to ProRes using Media Manager or Compressor. the EX codec performs well in FCP; you may want to consider staying in it and then, if you need to deliver in 422/444 or do any complex grading/keying/etc, up convert just your EDL to ProRes.

If it says ‘missing’ and/or is ghosted it means FCP is not seeing the device. Make sure FCP is set to the correct capture and Device Control presets. Also check the Apple System Profiler and see if the OS is seeing the deck; if it’s not visible here the application will not see it.

EX1 and EX3 cannot be upgraded from the card. See the instructions with the firmware; it needs to be installed from a PC via a USB connection.
The newer devices which were designed to be user-upgradeable can be versioned-up from the card. These include the 1R, 320/350, 500, 100, 160 and 200..

You can’t select HDV as an option in FCP for ‘Video Playback’ over firewire. You need to check the ‘Different output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video’ option and select ‘HDV 1440×1080’ as the output. FCP only support HDV output over firewire when doing a P2V, not directly from the timeline. Note that the above option will only be available if FCP sees an HDV-compatible device. Make sure the camera is set to ‘ SP 1440’ as the video format with ‘i.link I/O’ set to ‘Enabled.’ FCP should see it then and let you print an HDV stream to the card.
