yes, I saw what you wrote but it raised some questions and I was looking for specifics, i.e. what exactly happens when you try to copy, if there are any errors, whether you had a chance to observe if there was any change to the way UDF files behave when you’re not using the Tbolt adaptor, etc

Which version of the driver are you using? Is it this one:

Can you give a bit more detail re the symptom/behavior you’re seeing?

    Thanks

    thanks, i did miss that

if i’m following the steps correctly it was more than likely the trashing of the preferences file that fixed/reset L+T. this is a common fix for erratic application behavior on Macs. one thing, though– are you sure about the .mxf files? the L+T plugin only supports EX .mp4 files…

The ‘trial’ only refers to features that are part of the ‘Advanced Feature Pack.’ These features (you’ll see the word ‘trial’ next to certain items in the menus) work for 30 days from activation and after that require a serial #. Most of them are for XDCAM Optical Disc workflows and not EX. The base app with most of the everyday features is free and will never expire.

Can you remove Browser from /Applications and install v 2.1? Before doing this you can also try trashing the FCP and Browser Preferences files. (User/Library*/Preferences).

*Note that in Lion the user Library is hidden. Press Option + Go menu to reveal..

This is how it’s always worked; before Browser, XDCAM Transfer worked the same way. Make sure FCP lives in the root of /Applications on your hard drive. If it does, try reinstalling Browser. L+T should not affect it. We have them all running on multiple Macs here and there has never been any kind of interoperability problem. Also, please use v 2.1. Lots of fixes and improvements. https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads . Let me know..

Re Importing files into current project and Import Destination folder:

As you have probably seen, you set the Import folder within Browser’s preferences. You can point this to any location on the system.

If the file did not appear in your FCP Project you may have opened Browser in ‘standalone’ mode. Open by selecting File menu–>Import–>Sony XDCAM Browser within FCP. This launches the Browser application in plugin mode. If you launch Browser by itself, in Standalone mode, the clips will import but they won’t be mapped to a project.

The PROJECT field is sync’d to FCP, so if you have, for example, three different FCP projects open you can select the one to which the clips will be sent. You can’t type in this field; it’s just a drop-down menu, and if you launch Browser in Standalone mode this is greyed out.

    Re File names:

In the Import dialog box that pops up after you select ‘Import Into FCP’ you’ll see a list of the files queued for import. The ‘Registration File’ column refers to the name of the .mov file that will be created. By default, Browser uses an auto-naming scheme that you can configure in the Preferences. You can also click on any file in the ‘registration File’ column and change the name there.

The auto naming scheme is configured under Preferences–>FCP Tab. You’ll see boxes you can check to include the media name (SxS Card, XDCAM disc etc), the in/out time code etc in the file name of the QT file. (Again- even if you set this up you can still change the name of the QT file as you import by clicking on it in the Registration File column.)

    Re Bit rate:

You can’t change the data rate of the recorded clip during import. What you shot in is what will be ingested.

Try XDCAM Browser 2.1 or Transfer 2.13, both available at sony.com/xdcam-downloads. Neither are qualified for Mountain Lion but will probably get the job done. A Mountain Lion-qualified version of Browser is on the way and due out this month or next.

The Log and Transfer add-on will only work if the BPAV and all subdirectories and files are perfectly intact. We’ve found L+T to be somewhat erratic with any format and we often see the ‘Directory Structure’ warning with archives we know are intact (and can subsequently bring into Avid via AMA, Premiere via the Media Browser, or into Browser/Transfer). If possible please try one of the above plugins. Note that with Browser 2.1 you need to first set the FCP–>Version preference to 7..

September 14, 2012 at 2:24 pm in reply to: Sony PMW EX3 large file splitting

This is normal as EX utilizes the Fat32 file system which has a 4 GB file size limit (more like 12-15 mins). Newer versions of Premiere allow you to import these ‘spanned’ clips as single files using the Media Browser. If you use File–>Import you can only get the <4gb portions.

if you’re asking if there’s a way to use the EX3 loupe on the EX1, no, this isn’t really possible. the EX3 has a loupe over the LCD screen because the viewfinder is the LCD screen. the EX1 has a separate EVF.
