  • The GoPro footage is in its own compressed codec (h.264) that will require conversion to match your XDCAM EX or ProRes footage

yes, XAVC requires Adobe CC. you can use Catalyst to convert but you are better off converting to ProRes or XDCAM.

XAVC Long GOP .mxf files are, strictly speaking, supported in Vegas Pro 13 (latest build only) but there is a bug that affects X70 files. Catalyst can be used to convert until this is fixed. Otherwise you are good to go with latest versions of Avid, FCP and Premiere. Note that with Avid you need to Sony XAVC/XDCAM AMA plugin.

Great, so glad it worked out. When copying from an XDCAM make sure you see a CLIP folder with self contained .mxfs. Anytime you only see ProAV/CLPR you are looking at raw files that cannot be edited.

if you have all the data you may be able to fix this. the problem is that you copied the ‘raw’ file layer of the disc that is presented when the driver is not installed. these files are non-interleaved video and audio .mxfs.

XDCAM Transfer has a unique capability in that it can read this file structure. It can do this only because we were late in delivering the U1 driver for Mac so we put this intelligence into the XDCAM Transfer application. Try adding the folder you have as a source. If you have the mediapro.xml file this should work and you should see clips. If you do, select all the clips and then control click and select ‘export clips to folder’ or ‘export clip to file.’ This will export self-contained .mxfs in the proper structure. If you can;t get this far let me know.

the Transcode options are not for .mxf files, they are mostly for XDCAM ex .mp4 files. what other behavior is leading you to believe the file is corrupt?

When you look at the disc in the OS do you see the CLIP, SUB, EDIT, GENERAL and USER DATA folders, or just PROAV and GENERAL? If it’s the latter, you need to install the driver for the XDCAM device you are using. https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/software_for_sony_equipment

If that’s not the case let me know and I can have a look at the file for you

  • No rewrap yet but it will be implemented in a forthcoming update. FCP handles .mxf files natively now so for a number of our codecs this step will not be required.
