the thread covers XAVC Long support in FCP X, which has been under discussion for some time. the fix we are talking about now is for a specific FCP issue with files from the X70. it is being treated as an absolute priority and will be addressed soon. i will have another update shortly. thanks to all the X70 owners for their patience and for sticking with us. regrettably the introduction of new codecs often brings with it some complications.

do you see this for all EX .mp4 files? CS6 should support EX files linked via the Media Browser. do any of our applications play well with the file? try using Content Browser or Catalyst Browse.

Yes, when the fix is applied, which should be very soon, the video will import at its native settings.

1920 35 Mb is an EX codec. you can put an .mxf wrapper around it and bring it into Avid, Premiere etc but it won’t go to the /CLIP folder on an optical disc. 1080 files on optical XDCAM are 1920 x 1080 50 Mb CBR (8 ch, 24 bit audio) or 1440 x 1080 35 Mb VBR (4 ch, 16 bit audio). most NLEs have presets for selecting these. let me know if you need help with a particular editor or workflow.

yes, absolutely, but make sure of the following:

    1. you have the XDCAM Drive software installed. current version is 5.02.

    2. if you want to mix recording formats, make sure Mixed Recording is enabled in the software control panel

    3. if the files have arbitrary names, make sure Free Naming is enabled in the software control panel.

    4. you are using the XDCAM HD 422 50 Mb codec with 24 bit audio.

there is an issue with files from the X70. renaming or moving the directories will not help, I’m afraid. this is getting fixed asap.

totally understand your frustration, will have more to say on this very shortly

  • The software is very stable but edge cases will always pop up. Version 2.3.1 is mentioned above for the Mountain Lion (10.8.x) user. Does 2.3.2 (latest) perform any better? Yosemite is not officially supported. We may issue one last patch of CB for Yosemite depending on demand but keep in mind that CB is end of life and will be replaced by the new Catalyst Browse / Catalyst Prepare applications once their respective feature sets mature a bit more.
