WARNING 10.8.2 update Breaks SxS Driver
Posted by Gary Adcock on September 21, 2012 at 4:04 pmHey everyone.
A quick warning to everyone
the Mountain Lion 10.8.2 update that came out yesterday has broken the Sony SxS driver that is posted for use with the Sonnet Express Thunderbolt adaptor, Reports that other uses are also affected.
It does not corrupt the media or contents of the SxS media- it just will not allow you to copy media from any formatted SxS media ( FAT32 or UDF)

September 21, 2012 at 4:28 pmWhich version of the driver are you using? Is it this one:
Can you give a bit more detail re the symptom/behavior you’re seeing?
Thanks

September 21, 2012 at 4:34 pmYes Ian,
That is the driver I am using.
the issue- it was listed in the first post, did you just gloss over that?
“It does not corrupt the media or contents of the SxS media- it just will not allow you to copy media from any formatted SxS media ( FAT32 or UDF)”

September 21, 2012 at 4:45 pmyes, I saw what you wrote but it raised some questions and I was looking for specifics, i.e. what exactly happens when you try to copy, if there are any errors, whether you had a chance to observe if there was any change to the way UDF files behave when you’re not using the Tbolt adaptor, etc

September 21, 2012 at 4:49 pmYou cannot modify UDF volumes via the Mac OS.
You cannot copy anything from the volume.
You cannot clone the SxS card
You cannot modify the volume.the SxS call actually locks the machine up completely- good news is pulling the card from the reader releases the FINDER without a reboot.

September 23, 2012 at 12:03 pmWhile the problem appeared I was using this driver version:
“SxS_Device_Driver_mac_v1.1.1.09040”
I downloaded it following the link from Arri’s to Sony’s website. At the page you mentioned (the same linked by Arry’s website) now drivers are:
“SxS_Device_Driver_mac_v1.1.0.03142”
Evidently an older one.Now I was trying to find on line the version I have (1.1.1.09040) but it seem to be disappeared. Very strange.
Now I don’t have any SxS media to try combination between different drivers and osx versions.
Does anyone know what’s happening? Does someone else tried the different drivers?

That version of the driver is only on the Sonnet support page as far as I know.
https://www.sonnettech.com/support/kb/kb.php?cat=445&expand=_a2&action=a3#a3
their direct link is here.
https://www.sony.net/Products/sxssupport/download/driver/sxspro/SxS_Device_Driver.zip
And NO reinstalling the driver does not fix the issue.

September 28, 2012 at 6:09 pmI understand, they’ve written that version is 1.1.0.03142 but the link is to 1.1.1.09040
I sent them an email to warn about the problem and their answer have been:>>Sonnet has had similar reports from other users and is investigating the problem.
>>
>>Sonnet has never had version 1.1.1.09040 on our website, the latest version
>>we have had is 1.1.0.03142 which is on the site right now. That won’t help to fix the problem, but is still strange…
I didn’t tell to reinstall the driver, but to reinstall os x to the 10.8.1

September 28, 2012 at 6:17 pmThe Issue seems to be with the latest 2012 laptops and possibly the latest TB firmware update from Apple.
another good reason to never update in the middle of a project.
