did he format in the camera or on a computer? it is not possible to recover from an in-camera format as the camera does a secure overwrite. if you formatted on a PC we can probably recover the files. contact the media group and they will take care of you. ask for Francisco, he is their lead guy and saves lives on a regular basis..

Yes, it sounds like you are running Snow Leopard and installed the recent ProApps 1.0.3 update..? This breaks the XDCAM and Long GOP decoder in QuickTime and causes the symptom you describe. You will need to do one of the following:
-revert the system to a pre-upgrade state either bu restoring from a backup or by swapping out the QT library folder with one from another Snow Leopard/FCP system.
-upgrade your OS
This is an Apple problem and we are working with them on a fix but in the meantime you will have to use one of the above means to undo the recent update.

XQD is supported for UDF, we strongly recommend S-Series cards.
No real drawbacks but of course it is consumer media and is officially recommended as ’emergency’ or ‘backup’ media..
No changes in post workflow..

There is no upscale or transcode in XDCAM Transfer; it imports and rewraps as-is. The 540 vertical resolution is normal and most editors support it. It is really only with older versions of Avid that we have issues. If you are concerned about render times or otherwise must have it in 1080 you would have to transcode it in another application or just re-record the playback signal to an XDCAM device.

Try using Browser to manually reimport the .mp4s to new disc images. This will rebuild the metadata. File–>Import, select .mp4s, a new BPAV folder will be created in the target location..

there is no change in the frame rate; it’s just how 30 frame interlaced is being described. 1080 59.94i is still 29.97 fps but in HD we define it as ’60i.’ XDCAM Transfer can’t change your frame rate. whatever you are getting is what was shot.

They fail all the time. Believe me; I’m the one who gets the panic call from tech support or the dealer or account rep and has to try and recover the files. Even the good ones have an alarmingly high failure rate compared to the least expensive SxS option. This is just a fact. If you must use SD stick with Pro grade cards but know that you are taking a risk.
It has nothing to do with raw speed. The Class 10 cards are more than fast enough. It has more to do with shoddy memory that is not QCd, how the card’s controller handles buffering inconsistencies and other factors.
