  • It’s an Apple issue, we are working with them on a fix. In the meantime if you can revert the system or just the Library/QuickTime folder back to a pre-upgrade state the codecs will come back.

You always need a plugin but there are different ones. On its own Log and Transfer will not see EX files.

    For FCP 7:

To import using Log and Transfer = Sony Log and Transfer add-on (EX HD/SD only)

To import using XDCAM Transfer = XDCAM Transfer application/plugin (All XDCAM formats)

To import using Content Browser = Content Browser application/plugin (All XDCAM formats)

    For FCP X:

Use Sony PDZK-LT2/Media Import plugin, enables import via the Media Import routine (All EX/XDCAM formats except for files residing on optical disc media, in which case you need to use Content Browser)

no special software needed. use the normal import routine for FCP 7 (XDCAM Transfer, Content Browser or old Log and Transfer plug-in for EX/FAT only)

SxS is a much safer way to fly and SD cards are supported only as ’emergency’ or backup media. This has nothing to do with speed, necessarily. The cards generally work fine. But because we can’t control the quality of the flash memory or the controller chips or buffer management we really prefer you use SxS. If you have a problem with SxS there is a lot we can do to support you. If you have an issue with an SD card and we can’t mount the card or see the file system you are pretty much on your own.

Also, the old Log and Transfer plugin is long discontinued, not really updated/supported, and only supports XDCAM EX formats. If possible please use XDCAM Transfer or Content Browser.

only works for avchd when you are writing back to media, not for XDCAM/EX/XAVC

if the option is greyed out, it’s not valid for the format you are working with. if it’s an export requiring the demo version of the Main Concept plugin the option will be active but you’ll be reminded at the next step that you are using a trial version. see ‘available functions by file format’ table in the help..

    exporting from fcp x…

since X has a different architecture than 7 and Apple makes it very difficult to embed 3rd party components the export + rewrap to .mov is done via an ‘open with’ command in the Share dialog. this required a standalone export plugin in the root of /applications. this export component was always there, even with XDCAM Transfer, but it was bundled into the main application.

Here is a quick screen capture of the process. At the end the file is dropped into CB to verify that it behaves normally.

If you wanted to go the extra step of rebuilding the XDCAM disc image (with an XDCAM folder structure, XMLs etc) you would re-import the .mxf using Content Browser. Select a location in the Explorer window, File–>Import, browse to .mxfs… When the process is complete you will basically have gone back in time and restored the XDCAM disc..

for codec support of the .movs they would have to have FCP installed on the same system or else they’d need the Calibrated XD-Import plugin installed. failing this you can install Content Browser and use thhe standalone Export plugin to rewrap back to .mxf (just drop each .mov onto the app and a conversion window will open up; this is something of a hidden feature).

Any Picture Profiles loaded? You should save your settings off and do an ALL Rest on both cameras to ensure you are starting at the same baseline. It’s also possible that the ‘good’ camera has one of its exposure settings still in auto, which would allow it compensate for exposure changes the 2nd camera isn’t responding to if it is locked in full manual.
