I figure they come from the marketing department. FCP upgrades tend to match or better what rival (think Avid and Adobe) NLE maker’s are doing – rarely do I see an effort to fix any of the internal problems and inconsistencies that are documented daily on these forums.

If that’s really the thinking behind this limitation in Media Manager it’s moronic. Unlink Media allows you to delete non-tinecoded files with a simple warning dialogue, why couldn’t Media Manager do the same thing? I don’t like the idea of Apple deciding what my work flow ought to be and protecting me from myself – I’m a big boy and would like to make my own decisions.

It is true that there are more rendering choices with Studio2; the problem is that if you choose “best” rendering it takes forever, and if you choose “normal” rendering you get aliasing and artifacts that are unacceptable for final delivery. I have not found any setting that gives me both the quality and acceptable speed I was getting with FCP 5.

For the record I have a Dual 2.5 G5 with 5 gigs and a Radeon X800 XT – which means I’m NOT underpowered in any way. And yet …

FCP6 is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, Insanely Much slower to render Motion Files than was version 5. The only thing I’m not sure about is whether Intel Mac’s have this problem as well, or is it strictly G5’s seeing this issue.

While lasvideo might need more memory, that is not the cause of the problem. Many users are having this problem including me – and I have 5 Gigs in a G5 2.5 Dual. Files that rendered in FCP 5 in seconds are now taking 20 to thirty minutes. The same Motion 3 file that Final Cut took 3 HOURS to render was rendered directly out of Motion in under a minute. Something is definitely wrong with the render engine in FCP6.

In general very happy with new release – the biggies – multiple codecs in the same timeline and timeline auot-confrom to first clip – work as advertised. However …

2 big problems —

Render times – render times (at least with my G5 Daul 2.5)have gotten incredibly long – by factors of X100 or more, unless rendering is reset from “best” to “normal”, in which case artifacts and aliasing can be seen. There are numerous threads discussing this issue.

Re-Linking media – under some situations (the conditions haven’t been isolated yet) you have to re-link media 1 file at a time – the check box for “reconnect all files in relative path” is not functioning. This can be very onerous if you need to share a project with two editors, or simply have the need to move files from one drive to another.

The workaround seems to be to change rendering from “best” to “normal” in preferences. You will see artifacts this way, it’s only good for rough cuts, you’ll have to re-render at “best” for output.

The only thing to do is give feedback to apple and pray for a fix.

The only solution seems to be to turn off “best” rendering in favor of “normal” rendering in preferences during editing, and then do an overnight render at “best” settings for output. This is a truly sucky workaround, because you can see all sorts of aliasing in “normal” rendering, but the “best” settings are insanely long to render. Don’t know how or why they screwed this up, but the only thing we can do is complain.

I’m seeing the same outrageously long render times, and I too figured out the adjustment to “normal” instead of “best” quality for speeding up rendering. The question for me is why has this happened – with FCP5 and Motion2 I was able to get high quality at a much faster rate than with Studio 2 – I don’t see this as an upgrade, more like a disaster.

I’m having the same issue with reconnecting media files and it has nothing to do with capturing across timeliness. This is media that has been moved from one drive to another and now I have to recapture 1 files at a time – and this is a job with about 60 files. excruciating.
