Absolutely not. There is nothing in the multi-cam setup that would cause this. Given all the problems you seem to be having with loss of audio sync and this export problem I would have to suspect something is “off” with the clips you have captured, or the FCP project file may be corrupted.

I would also highly recommend that you upgrade to FCP version 6.03 if you haven’t already. It has fixed the type of sync issues that started this thread.

No need. That’s a film mix technique and the nature of digital video makes it unnecessary.

In general, Yes.

I’ve read some places that people separate out indoor and outdoor sync sound onto different tracks. Is that necessary?

It’s an option, not a necessity. If you have distinctly different sets of audio sources, then assigning each type of audio it’s own tracks can have advantages. It makes setting global filters and settings for each group of audio clips easier. On the other hand working in a timeline with 12 or more tracks can be very cumbersome. It’s an individual choice based on operator ease.

It turns out you can make an easy setup for DVCPRO 720P29.97 by modifying the 720P59.94 easy setup – but I was just curious as to why the omission from blackmagic – they had every other variation possible and 30FPS was an original option from Panasonic so it just seemed strange that they would omit this one setting.

I’m actually away from the studio for a few days. This all came up because my assistant was digitizing my tapes and reporting these problems to me. Doesn’t capturing with ProRes involve creating much larger files. What are the advantages as you see it.

Also, what would be your workflow using ProRes when camera masters were DVCPRO HD and you had to deliver DVCPRO HD show masters.

I am aware of the none native nature of HD-SDI capture. I have had any number of problems using firewire and the 1200A =and my many conversations with the techs at Panasonic have not made me any too confident in trusting my HD workflow to firewire if it can be avoided. I’ll take any theoretic loss when using HD-SDI in exchange for it’s stability. In the case of 720P30 I’m seemingly stuck with firewire and am just trying to survive.

My last post was a mistake. We are using the DVCPRO HD 720P30 easy set-up. What doesn’t exist, surprisingly, is a blackmagic easy-setup for 720P30. They have one for 720P60 and 720P24 but nothing for 30. I prefer going in HD-SDI myself, but am forced to go in via firewire – and now I’m having this strange behavior of the clips. They play fine in a 720P30 timeline but in the viewer and in the browser they indicate having 60 frames. I’ve never edited in 720P30 before and I’m tryihg to figure out if this is normal or I’m having a problem.
