    Hi Oliver.

Get as much RAM as possible. And a new and good GFX card… FCPX will use it a lot, and DaVinci will also.

About audio, XtoPro will give you enough over to either ProTools or Nuendo, both works fine.

FCPX main feature is metadata (keywording), such a blessing.

Just try to use a ref.mic for audio on all cameras for easy sync, and you should be up and running.
    Also a good RAID.

To all who think the new mac will be heaven; yes it will if the softwarepeople opens up for the hardware.

OpenCL; (processing on the GPU), for all stuff that the GPU can handle we will see huge performance jump.

CPU; not much at all ( we have now 2×6 cores), the new is 1×12 cores, at really lower speed, but thanks to better stuff inside, it will properbly be a bit better than the best we have today. So CPU will give only a little speedjump.

SSD on PCI; this will give us a sick speedjump on loading the OS and programs. Media will be stored on external stuff, since the internal SSD is small. But browsing effects etc. that is stored internaly will benefit.

RAM; more is better and now it is even faster…

So it comes down to how well softwarepeople integrates the OpenCL and GrandCentralDispatch.

And, also AV-foundation will give us more…

But hardware wise, I say OpenCL(GPU), SSD on PCI, RAM and motherboardconnection/design, is what gives us the most. But OpenCL(offloading stuff to GPU) will be the winner.

I’ve only done it in a 10 users place on Xsan, and have moved to a new company now and have started here as well, with FCPX and XSAN.

In Xsan, you add SAN-location and remove SAN-location, almost like open/close project from FCP7.
Also, you can write one line of terminal and link the user to a shared motion template folder, then all editors get the same FX and supers and stuff.

The is really nothing that should make problems for you on moving on to a big system.

    It is like this:

    ln (the command)
    -s (the parameter)
/Volumes/NewDisc/Folder/ (the new place to link to)
Motion Templates.localized (the name of the folder from)

    so: command parameter to from

The forward slash is for having a space in a filename.
