Hm, I spoke to soon.
H.264 only gives me 600% max out of 2400%…. the full maxout is when more jobs is running or doing prores output.
All codecs that allow the segment flag to be on, will use full CPU count.Looks like the x264 is much better at multicore.

yes it is.
We have 10 seats of FCPX/compressor with our Xsan.
We use compressor/H264 for coding.
We have macpro’s 2012 and 2013 and iMacs
No problem setting up compressor to use all 24 threads. I do it all the time. but remember some codecs will not do multicore very well.
But h.264 does as does prores.Helge Tjelta

March 7, 2017 at 5:00 pm in reply to: FCPX performance – codecs and external IO hardwareDNxHD and ProRes are almost equal in performance. They are both heavy multithread and works very well.
ProRes is so efficient that besides DNxHD, it is almost much better to transcode rather than use native codecs throughout the editing/grade/online/mastering.
i.e. Resolve uses 5-6 times longer for grade/output of a H.264 than ProRes (I would guess DNxHD is the same as ProRes).
The point is, not all codecs support segmentation or multi-core use. And some programs utilise this very much, hence FCPX is so insane efficient with ProRes.
just my guess 🙂

I use X2Pro and send it to Nuendo.
Nuendo has a special track called loudness track, with graphical loudness representation, so I have full control over a R128 mix. Just perfect.
Also, the roles setup from FCPX is just killer!

But eventually they will have to upgrade…

Yes, I know. But on a whole feature ? Thats way too many shots to make compounds clip for 🙂

Hi, I would not do ADR in FCPX.
The best way is to make a xml from it, go with X2Pro and do a AAF output. Then import this into:Nuendo 7. The new ADR module is just so superb.
Also the timestretch and pitch is very controllable and good quality./helge

October 12, 2014 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Oliver Peters – Using RED With FCP X and ResolveHi, I can confirm this works very well. At my company we do it the same way, and also my former work at Gyro in Oslo, is also doing it like this.
More or less 100% the same, except we always do sound on camera and very seldom on seperate recorder. Also we do soundwork in Nuendo and not ProTools. But the same workflow.
XML to AAF and then into Nuendo, works perfectly.
