  • Move “Motion Templates” folder to another HD

I have a SSD for my system drive. It is getting full with all of my motionVFX plugins and effects.

I did a forum search, but the answers must pertain to v4 – because I don’t see a PREFS option to select where you put the TEMPLATES folder.

Any tips? Surely we don’t have to keep them on the system drive.

If you move them, you’ll have to create sym links to your system user/Movies/Motion Templates folder.

You need to create symbolic links.

    Or do it like this:

Rename the motion templates forlder first (just to keep it safe)

First do a cd to your user/movies folder, then:

    ln -s /Volumes/NewDisc/Folder/ Motion\ Templates.localized

    In therminal that is:

when you start in terminal, type cd and a space, drag you movies folder into it, enter…
then you are in the right folder, then create the link using the line above…

I can’t seem to find their tutorial online now. Wonder if something changed.

Here’s a question for you Helge, I’m trying to do the same thing with ~Library/Application Support/ProApps/Effects Presets, which almost works. I can SEND files to the server location, but my mac won’t pull files from it. When I open FCPX, it doesn’t read the presets from the server. If I create one, it will save it there just fine.

I changed permissions on the local ProApps/Effects Presets folder to match what the Motion Templates one does, but still no joy.

    Any ideas?
