“I mean, why would Apple move to a intel based architecture??”
This is why I think that the article is not true. Apple has just released a new OS. They have promised the dev’s that they will no longer touch the API’s within Tiger(what ever that is, but sounds important). We have a new a new version of FCP studio. Everything points to this article not getting it right.
They ONLY possible outcome from Monday’s announcement is Apple hiring Intel to create PPC chips. If this is the case then I don’t have a problem. Apple has to stay ahead of the game if it expects to move machines off the shelf. And in the end if it brings better, faster chips without lowering the quality that Apple as bestowed upon the industry, then we all win. If they stick a Pentium inside a mac, I will die.

“Microsoft gone in 20 years?? Not a chance my friends.”
As much as I hate to admit this, it’s true. But it’s a good thing.
Although I have never used an Avid, it seems that they have done what microcrap has done – They’re the big boys so they no longer need to innovate.

Here’s what I do: Click on “Clip Overlay” at the bottom of the timeline, then bring down the opacity down and release, then bring it back up again. Works like a charm.

“So what! There will be and when there is you have a master on HDV! HDV quality in FCP is superb, I have spent two days testing the workflow and quality is outstanding.”
Who here questioned the quality of HDV? We’re talking about workflow. As it stands you CAN”T put HDV footage on today’s DVDs. It’s true that you will someday, but I don’t base my workflow on the promises of tomorrow only on the realities of today.
The original poster has a problem with 1 1/2 sequence. NOT a 3 min sequence. When the rest of technology catches up ( HD DVD, Blue Ray, full-size tapes, DVD players) you’ll see the true benefits of HDV.
So next time, instead of jumping down my throat – READ.

The only solution I can think of is to finish all of your old projects with FCP 4.5 and then move on. You should never upgrade in the middle of a project.
HDV – I think that many people are not using there heads when it comes to HDV. Even if it only took 5 minutes to render a movie there’s nothing you can do with. There are no HD DVD or Blue Ray DVD players. I believe from reading the post on this and other forums that rendering out for DVD will be obsolete. I don’t think broadcast facilities have caught up to HDV yet. I think that where you disappoint comes from is how young this technology stands. You can’t even use a full size tape with HDV.
Down-convert your footage to DV and you can at least use existing-proven-technology until the rest of the world catches up.

“Work flow was
Export to QT movie, 17 minutes
Compressor 90 min high quality, audio and video, one hour 17 minutes. ”Why do you export out of QT first then into Compressor? Isn’t that a waste of time?
BTW, I didn’t see the Mythbuster episode about the poprocks. BUT, I have a friend who is the friend of the cousin to the machanic of the one of the host to mythbusters and he said that it was all staged. 😉

” I heard that it would take up to 6 hrs on a g5 duel processor.”
I also heard that if you eat PopRocks and drink a can of Coke at the same time, you could die.
On my dual 2 gig G5, an hour of DV takes roughly 30-45 minutes to to encode at a VBR. I’m not sure what you mean by “sending it out to DVD”.

It seems like a classic case of “I don’t need no stinking manual!”
There’s a reason why FCP comes in a big box.
