Will Final Cut Pro software be availible on the PC plateform?
Posted by Stevejr on April 29, 2005 at 5:16 amDose anybody know if Final Cut Pro Software will ever be availible on the PC platform.
Avid was once on the MAC only and then switch because their are so much more PC users, which means money.

April 29, 2005 at 5:26 amNO. Fcp will NEVER be available on the pc platform. Get over it. Buy a mac.
Not many people know but Apple gets most of it’s revenues from selling hardware. They want you to buy fcp so that they can sell you a powermac. It’s that simple..
This fact might be a bit annoying for pc users.
Anders (for some reason I have never wanted to buy premiere even though it’s only available on the pc now 🙂

April 29, 2005 at 6:34 amHonestly, there is no motivation for Apple to do that. FCP sells G5s plain and simple.
Don’t worry though. THe G5/FCP combo is second to none.

April 29, 2005 at 3:36 pmFinal Cut Pro leverages plenty of unique technologies available only in the Macintosh OS. Apple could bring it to the PC but then development would be more difficult because the codebase would have to be kept in a rather generic state that ensures parity amongst the two platforms.
I think the better thing is to have open and interoperable standards so that studios don’t have to make a platform decision but rather each computer platform whether it be linux, Mac or Windows is just another node.

April 29, 2005 at 3:40 pmWell not really. Adobe has shown that it can be done. After Effects runs great on both platform.
Apple would sell A LOT MORE FCP in the PC platform than it would on the Mac. iPod/iTunes anyone?. But unlike iPod, the revenue souce would be limited. No Mac hardware or service to go along with it.

April 29, 2005 at 3:45 pmWhat about support? Can you imagine the enormous task it would be to try to support all the various configurations? The advantage of “Mac only” is they have a controlled environment in which to refine and innovate.

April 29, 2005 at 4:44 pmNo. Why should Apple repeat the cross-platform mistakes of Avid?

Hi,
The last time DV magazine benchmarked AE and Premier they both rendered almost 2x as fast on a PC. FCP was about 2x as fast as Premiere because it was optimized for the Mac.
Best Wishes,

Let me know when tickets are available. I’ll need time to dust off my blue suede shoes! 🙂
