    few things i would try

    – shifting fields – shift fields filter

    – have you tried keying and scaling on an xdcam/proress HD timeline, export, then bring back to your SD timline?

also, maybe try working on a proress SD timeline in HQ mode.

maybe even a progressive SD timeline, and only export to uncompressed SD interlaced through compressor at the end. you could check on a small 3 seconds fragment to see how it looks.

    paula

you could probably twist and turn stuff enough to bring footage in fcp…

however, your system is not supported to work with RED, and probably too weak to handle these files properly.

all RED tools to import, convert, and modify RED files are for intel macs

at least that’s what their support page says. i haven’t tried to run RED apps on PPC
    https://www.red.com/support

just to give you an idea,

one of our systems is a 17″ macbook pro from earlier version, and, depending on the HD connected, it handles RED files good enough.

i saw a friend working with a 2 year old 15″ and it still worked.

however.. even on a strong 8 core system. RED workflows tend to be needy, the more you have, the better it will handle.

maybe its a good time to upgrade 🙂

  • i read a few L&T malfunctions on the RED user forum.
haven’t heard of P2 problem… do a search on L&T in the RED user forum and you will find quit a few threads, some describing similar behaviors as you are.

if it is indeed the same case,
it appears to be quite random and not version related.

a local coleague of mine tried virtually everything in the book before going through a complete re-install of his system to finally solve the problem.

he has a whole thread describing his struggle on the RED forum.

seems like there’s this strange L&T STD going around…
maybe little condoms on new USBs i connect to my system 🙂

    are you on 10.4.11? why?

    hope you solve your problem

    hi Gregory

welcome to the wonderful (and hopefully at its final days) world of FCP 6

view menu – video playback, and then select what you need, if connected through video card, FW device, or cinema display…

    then press command F12

    good luck

March 8, 2009 at 12:29 pm in reply to: Jittering picture!

    hi Rob

next time you can set an easy setup at the begining of your work that matches your format.

also, if you are on version 6 (which you should be) when you drop the first clip in a timeline FCP will ask you if you want the timeline to match the clip or clip to match the timeline. make the timeline match and work from there.

    for now, duplicate your sequence
change the sequence settings to this

in the video processing tab put best on motion FX like this

then, select all clips on your timeline.
    right click and remove attributes,

select to remove basic motion and distort

should put your timeline back to DV pal, might need to render, but far less than what you had to on an XDCAM timeline

if any resizing rotating or movement was done on a clip,
redo if simple, or copy from other sequence if keyframed and complex and just adjust the right size

    good luck

    hi Lisa

this is an old question… pops up all the time

in the filters tab, set your controls to this…

make sure you select your project properly like in the second image

should do the trick on any output, not just 264.

compressor is so much better than QT for encoding and compressing.

you can use many things to put a nail in a wall… but better use a hammer 🙂

  • hi Bob
“Company called BitJazz has developed Codecs designed to address this specific issue. Link:”

say, did you work with this codec? sounds promising from their website

    and not that expensive…

    thanks for any info

February 26, 2009 at 1:06 am in reply to: Which is better for post – the Sony F23 or the RED?

    i stand corrected.

    thx 🙂

work a lot with RED, quite often this past year
would rather work with SR, 🙂 But no SR’s (decks or cams) around… little to no actual workflow experiences with it.

very familiar with other high-end tape workflows

and do think its a simpler way to go

so, no 12 bit on SR at all? i always thought there was a way to do it…

    like walter mentioned

could be your decklink. if you do have one

go to system preferences – decklink – and set:
when not playing video send – black

restart, and try sending to color

    this could be your case
