Can not “Add Folder” in “Log and Transfer”
Posted by Andrei Bocharnikov on June 20, 2008 at 9:02 amHi,
never happened before…
I was shooting on P2 and stored the content of the card on an external hard disk. Now I have problem to open it in FCP with “Log and Transfer”. Usually I press the “Add Folder” button and show the location of the P2 files and then they appear in the L&T window. It was like this before but not any more… Now when I add folders they just do not appear in the L&T… nothing happening… no error message, no alarm sound… nothing.
Any idea what I am doing wrong and how to import my P2 footage in FCP?

June 20, 2008 at 12:57 pmHi,
Yes, I am having the exact same problem. I used to be able to bring in P2 footage into Final Cut just as you described. In fact, I brought in one reel of footage just this morning for a client, and now I can’t bring in the other reels. I’m wracking my brain trying to understand why it worked for one reel, but now suddenly (as in a mater of minutes) the other reels just won’t show up in the Log and Transfer window.
The company I’m currently editing for is running Final Cut 6.0.3 on a 2 X 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro with 4 GB RAM.
If any one nows of a way to solve this issue, it would be great to know ASAP.
Thank you so much,

June 20, 2008 at 1:17 pmActually, I managed to make it work on a different computer. I’m told it’s an issue that comes up with the combination of Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 and OS X 10.5.2. So, Final Cut may need an upgrade or something.

June 20, 2008 at 1:41 pmThe issue seems to be the combination of 10.5.3 and FCP 6.0.3. The Mac Pro running FCP 6.0.3 can’t pull up the folder in the L&T window in FCP. But the office iMac that’s running Final Cut 6.0.2 can. That’s how I got around the issue for now. Hopefully Apple will put out an update fixing the issue soon.

June 20, 2008 at 1:53 pmAh, sorry. That’s my mistake. I meant 10.5.3 when I wrote that earlier message. The problem is definitely with 10.5.3 and FCP 6.0.3.

June 20, 2008 at 2:02 pmSorry, I can’t reproduce the problem with the same OS and FCP versions. I can correctly select the folder and populate the transfer window.

June 20, 2008 at 2:09 pmFollow-up: what you describe can occur if the media had already been loaded in the transfer window at an earlier time or some of it has already been ingested. I don’t know of a work around.

June 20, 2008 at 2:32 pmYou might want to check the Video folder on the folder to make sure the video files are still there. They are very easy to delete from inside FCP.

Really? How do you do that? or perhaps more importantly, how do I not do that?
Thanks, tim
