The title says it all. I”m putting together a project that mixes a large amount of BetaSP footage and XDCAM HD (30p) footage. Mostly I’m scaling the HD footage into SD timelines. And it looks like crap. Like it’s interlacing the scaled footage, but it looks worse than the SD stuff.
I’m keying shots from the XDCam over Beta footage, and since it’s destine for SD delivery, I’m doing it in an SD 8 Bit uncompressed timeline. The key come’s out pretty good, but the something is going wrong in the scaling.
Someone suggested taking every shot that’s in HD and scaling it down to SD in compressor, but one, I need the extra resolution that HD allows within SD, and two, it would be a huge hassle given the amount. Finally, three, wouldn’t I get a better key off of HD footage anyway?
I sequence settings are for “best” when dealing with the motion tab. So it’s not that.
Please please please be just a quick stupid fix.

    Thanks,

    few things i would try

    – shifting fields – shift fields filter

    – have you tried keying and scaling on an xdcam/proress HD timeline, export, then bring back to your SD timline?

also, maybe try working on a proress SD timeline in HQ mode.

maybe even a progressive SD timeline, and only export to uncompressed SD interlaced through compressor at the end. you could check on a small 3 seconds fragment to see how it looks.

    Hi BrAd,
You can also set FC to “Render all YUV material in High Precision” and “Render Motion Effects: BEST”.
    Should help with the downscaling.
