from what iv’e seen so far
no 3-way tool (even as a filter)
no curves (unless they are still hiding)
no gamma adjustment toolstill didn’t find the frame viewer or any way to compare shots
nice scopes
nice response
infinite (apparently i stopped at 15…) amaount of secondaries that include a keyer and a mask, inside and outside control, not alot of key adjustment options
once selected you have the same set of tools like in primary
its a strange color balance tool… will need some time to get used to
looks perfect for an iPad control appsome nice color presets
a much longer and beefier blending modes list
didn’t play with the auto tools yet
there seem to be much more
but though it looks quite cool and nifty, this is not a pro grading tool.
this is all very DSLR generation… and feels like it needs feedback and versions

June 21, 2011 at 2:46 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro X does not have Log and Capture (or transfer) feature[Bret Williams] “I would assume though, that FCP X can natively use your footage. I haven’t downloaded yet. Is it just import?”
i opened a card i shot on the AGAF100, FCPX refers to it as a camera archive.
i clicked import all and in a few seconds was able to work with all my shots, apply effects and color correction to the all quite smoothly.
i didn’t select the create proxies or prores option so these were native AVCHD files

we should probably just be patient, this is all very “version 1”
at least it works in parallel with FCP7
so by the time FCPX.xx5 comes out and fixes stuff, we will all be quite familiar with it.
still… with all the tapeless vibe this app has, and the 4K support, one would expect it to work natively with R3D files…

June 21, 2011 at 2:21 pm in reply to: A Coherent Thread To Take Stock Of What’s Missingthis is by no means color inside FCPX
its a new, kind of cool but also bit limited color interface
filters do not include 3-way color correction or gamma control…
didn’t find curves too… still looking
midtone exposure feature apparently affects black, and is not called gamma too…secondaries work but feel funny
still looking for the equivalent of the frame viewer or any way to compare while grading
scopes are nice
not sure i want to color correct using this…

If it’s app store policy… I think you can install it on 5 devices.

[Paul Jones] “….log and capture ?”
from the apple site:
“Tape-based import
Final Cut Pro supports streaming DV capture through FireWire. Or capture video from tape using third-party video cards and software. Let the capture run in the background at your workstation or use a dedicated capture station.”

color has been merged apparently into FCPX so has STP
there is no word on the existence of a viewer window…
or R3D support (i know… 3rd party plugin, but still… you would expect it to be part of the app)
trim tools look interesting and very diverse… and finally there is TOP/TAIL trim display … been wanting something like this for years 🙂
its downloading slow…
can’t wait 🙂
happy Summer Solstice to all
