Just from my limited poking around. These are the things I use on a daily basis that I could not find:

    1. Can’t open a previous FCP project.
    2. Can’t export OMF
    3. Can’t resize Timecode Window.
    4. Can’t import or Export XML

From what I can tell it’s Imovie with some bells and whistles added. This is by no means a pro application. I’m actually not sure who will use this. Maybe film students, but I can’t imagine anyone with a company that relies on Professional level software using this. I guess for a 1.0 release it’s not bad. Hopefully they’ll add all the good stuff back in for the pro user. We’ll enough playing. Need to get back to paying work on the old FCP 7.

this is by no means color inside FCPX

its a new, kind of cool but also bit limited color interface

filters do not include 3-way color correction or gamma control…
didn’t find curves too… still looking
midtone exposure feature apparently affects black, and is not called gamma too…

    secondaries work but feel funny

still looking for the equivalent of the frame viewer or any way to compare while grading

    scopes are nice

not sure i want to color correct using this…

[Greg Jones] “I’m actually not sure who will use this.”

Despite the fact that it doesn’t have some things I need right now, there are some people I know that do professional work in a corporate environment that this is perfect for.

There are TONS of new media depts, in house production depts (that don’t use tape)…it really goes on and on.

Hey, don’t anybody panic – everything you want and think is missing is hidden away in the magic menus that switch everything back to the way it was, as convincingly argued so many times on this forum over the last couple of months. You just need to find them, so start hunting and stop being a bunch of “Chicken Littles”.

And the clincher is that David Roth Weiss categorically stated only last week that FCPX “will do most of the day to day things you’re doing now in far better ways than whatever you’re using today”, so it’s got to be true 😉

[Simon Ubsdell] “FCPX “will do most of the day to day things you’re doing now in far better ways than whatever you’re using today”, so it’s got to be true ;-)”

It’s true and it isn’t. Depending on what you do, it’s either a complete non-starter, a nice diversion until a later version comes along, or something to get started with.

For details, take a look at Gary Adcock’s overview here in the COW Library, FCP X: Ready or Not, Here It Comes!

That’s not true at all Simon, you have completely misquoted me and the intent of what I wrote. I said it would do somethings better, (i.e. was not built upon Quicktime), and I also said it would not be for everyone.

I hate to disagree with you but I copied and pasted your exact comment so misquoting doesn’t really come into it 😉
