Not quite sure about the OMF problem, but try this:

Get the Avid Meridien codec from Avid’s site.

    https://www.avid.com/onlinesupport/supportcontent.asp?productID=10&contentID=3555&typeID=

In AE, render to a QuickTime with the Meridien codec. In the Avid you will get a “Fast Import” when you import the file. It zips right through the file.. vs using something like the Animation codec which takes for…ev….er….

The Meridien also supports an alpha channel.

Make sure in your render settings, (I am doing this from memory, so this might not be exact) but set the colorspace to CCIR-601, not RGB in the codec options. You’ll see it. Also, you’ll need to pick 2:1 or 1:1 depending on your Avid settings.

Not quite sure if I follow you…BUT

Is it possible for you to precompose these 3d layers? Then you can turn on the continuous rasterize switch and they will keep their 3D attributes.

The parenting option should work, though. Parenting affects, among other things, rotation.

Where are you seeing this jitter? In RAM preview or the render?

If it’s the render, check your field separation in the render settings. Not sure if you are using NTSC or PAL, but if you are rendering for video, you need to set the appropriate field separation for your standard. NTSC is lower field first, PAL upper field first.

RAM preview by default is unable to do this, and you’ll be unable to see any field separation unless you install some 3rd party plug-ins.

Although AE has, from what I understand, 65,000 levels of subpixel interpolation, sometimes it doesn’t quite look smooth even with all of this set correctly. There are expressions to fix this.. which I can’t seem to find right now. I’ll post them when I find them.

April 21, 2006 at 4:14 pm in reply to: Time Remap certain areas

I think you might be looking for “Time Displacement”.

This effect uses a luminance map to remap a layer’s pixels forward or backward in time.

Check the help file for a little more detail on it. I will say.. it is a total CPU hog.

And the light also set to cast shadows?

Other than that, check different views to make sure that the light position and point of interest are in line with the casting object and receiving object.

Is the layer set to cast shadows? It does default to ‘off’. Of course, that’s in 6.5.. I am only assuming 7 is the same way.

Select your layer.. hit “AA”. Check your Cast Shadow status.

April 20, 2006 at 8:11 pm in reply to: MUST see for Mograph artists

Coming from a Maya world.. I am seeing more and more that I should learn Cinema 4d.

All I hear from C4D users is how great it is.

Whereas “f&#*ing Maya” is a part of my daily vernacular. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great tool.. but it is SOOO picky.

Anyway… can anyone suggest some decent training materials for a migrating user?

Maybe add a wiggle expression to the brightness of the lens flare. Something like:

    wiggle(6, 40);

And I would highly recommend Knoll Light Factory, over the standard AE/Knoll 35MM lens flare. It even has some sort of welder torch preset, I believe.
