Maybe I am way off as to the effect you are looking for, but I am doing a scoreboard style effect on a project right now, too.

I am getting great results using “CC Ball Action”. It breaks a layer down into..well… balls. If you adjust their size and spacing and add some creative glow effects, it looks perfect.

    just my two cents.

It might push you in the right direction to say this:

Set your Particles per Second to a very high number, then one frame afterward, set it to zero.

    Try this:

In the Render Queue, go to the Output Module for your render. Click on “Format Options” under Video Output. This brings up the Compression Settings with another “Options…” window. Click that.

Set it to “RGB Levels”, not “ITU-R 601” .

Sometimes that setting screws things up.

  • Also, if you open your “Adobe After Effects 6.5 Shortcuts” file (or whatever version you have) you find:

    “EasyEase” = “(F9)”

(On the Mac it’s in user/Library/Preferences/)

You can remap this key here. Make to not use something already in use.

ALWAYS, make a backup of this file before fiddling with it, though.

What about simply laying off to VHS and wiggling the coax cable feeding the TV?

Set up a camera then shoot.

Nothing looks better than the real thing.

Or you can draw your mask layer on a solid as the topmost layer and set that layer’s transfer mode to “Stencil Alpha”.

Well, I was going to wait until I completed the whole thing. However, it’s been a month since I’ve started it, so I figured, what the heck, I ‘ll put it online.

So, I apologize, it’s still not done. There will be more to it this weekend.

OK, I am about to shoot myself. One of these files has already gone down.

All I can say is… these files are hosted by “streamload.com”

You can infer on your own opinion on their quality of service.

April 25, 2006 at 3:33 pm in reply to: Expressions: Determining width of a text layer

I’ve noticed that Path text has an Information section, including Text Length and Path Length.

I’ve tried reading this with an expression with no luck.

I tried effect(“Path Text”)(“Information”)(“Text Length”) as well as (“Path Text”)(“Information/Text Length”).

    No luck.

Maybe someone else has an idea?
