Export to OMF Fails Instantly
I’m trying to export my timeline into an OMF format, because I’ve been told it’s faster to import into my timeline because I use an Avid Meridien-based editing system (PC).
I set up my render queue, using 1:1 compression. When I tell the queue to Render, it stops with an error msg “Failed at #######”. The first frame. Even if I change the export start time, it still fails at the new first frame. Any idea what’s going on?

Not quite sure about the OMF problem, but try this:
Get the Avid Meridien codec from Avid’s site.

In AE, render to a QuickTime with the Meridien codec. In the Avid you will get a “Fast Import” when you import the file. It zips right through the file.. vs using something like the Animation codec which takes for…ev….er….
The Meridien also supports an alpha channel.
Make sure in your render settings, (I am doing this from memory, so this might not be exact) but set the colorspace to CCIR-601, not RGB in the codec options. You’ll see it. Also, you’ll need to pick 2:1 or 1:1 depending on your Avid settings.

whats your comps dimensions?
make sure its 720×486 or i dont think it will work

Same goes for meridien codec. If you don’t user 720×486 you get a render fail and the dreaded “sheep baaaah!”.
