I typically do a constant bit rate. I go from between 8,000,000 – 8,800,000. The only time I consider a variable rate is if I need to have more video on a single DVD. Otherwise I feel the constant bit rate is the only way to go.

Render it as MPG2 for DVD. A DVD will handle about 72 minutes of video and after that you have to start lowering the bit rate & quality of picture. I never use dual layer DVDs and if necessary I create 2 DVDs. There are a lot of other factors that impact the final size of the mpg2 file. What did you shoot and did you use a tripod? Is there a lot of action/movement in your video? You need to use a bit rate calculator to determine the render settings.

A laptop is a computer is a computer and is not the problem. Is this one single clip or are there multiple clips on the time line? Are they from different sources, are the clips all on the same track? What filters do you have applied, any key framing?

Look here for green screen info (although your text is not describing chroma key):

You might be able to use Super to translate the video into something that will play on the time line.

Not to take this off topic but I really am getting into three layered montages. Being able to automate some of this work is a real time saver. Plus it takes your work to a new level. It’s all about workflow and tools.

I would re-install Vegas and see what happens. That is probably what you should have done to begin with.

I use Vegas Pro 8 and do all of my compositing work there. I use a lot of stuff from Detonation Films in my movies and they look good. Here is a composite that I added to a Magic Lecture Promo. If you follow this link the video will start to play right away. It is about 15 seconds into the video. https://www.edellismagic.com/MultiMedia.html
It is done with Vegas and a special effect from DF (https://www.detonationfilms.com/).

You can see that I added the effect as well as highlighted the background as the spark travels to the floor. All the sound is from the Sound Effects series from Digital Juice.
