The example you showed has two important aspects about it. One is the composition of the two shots and the other is the flow of the audio. Both make it a natural cut. It is obvious there is a cut, but the content of the pictures and the flow of the audio make it ‘smooth’. That was the reason for my link to the continuity tutorial. If your earlier example there is a break in terms of the child coming at you slightly from the right hand and the next shot of the woman, looking from left to right, is the other direction. You could try to flip this last image horizontally to see if it has a more natural flow to it. If you mail me privately at millaard@millcon.nl I can show you some examples.
