The only way I know to label clips in the timeline without affecting master clips in the bin is to use “make clips independent” on the clips in the timeline and then apply the label.

I’m told that the “best” SD camera around is the SDX900.

I think the SPX800 is a little bit higher quality, 14-bit DSP vs 12-bit on the 900.

The Nattress plugin works great- I would guess it looks better than less expensive hardware converters.

Snell and Wilcox is supposed to have the best quality hardware converters (lots of $):

You can batch reverse telecine in cinema tools. See the cinema tools manual.

Hopefully Noah Kadner(the author of the article) will see the thread and help sort this out…

I think the article is talking about people that make their own preset and try to use 23.98. the “DV NTSC 48 kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal” preset IS set to capture at 29.97 and automatically remove the interlace frames to give you 23.98 clips.

You should probably just use the capture preset “DV NTSC 48 kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal”

I’m not sure if I understand what you doing but you could try capturing the 24pA as 29.97 and removing the advanced pulldown from the 720p footage after you go through compressor.

or maybe you could use media manager to recompress the footage?

maybe format as ntfs on a PC? I think later versions of 10.3 read/write to it.

April 19, 2005 at 3:51 am in reply to: FCP 5 coming to LA. Got questions?

Mixed resolutions in timeline (I guess not…)?

    -Multiple resolutions in one timeline?

WHY can’t we do this in FCP 5? Lot’s of people would be happy even if the minimum requirement for the feature was a dual G5.

  • They would still automatically add letterboxing on 4×3 screens, right? If so, and if I could just render out a letterboxed version from FCP if I ever needed a letterboxed version for Digibeta or Beta SP, then is there really no reason not to transfer S16 footage anamorphic?

    Yep.

Good luck with the film. Here’s my email if any more questions come up: guy (at) guywagner.com
