1.- Does anyone have an advice on a good standards converter?

2.- Has anyone used the Nattress standard converter plug-in?

I suppose a hardware converter is much better that a software plug-in,
but I am open to both solutions.

NTSC to PAL / PAL to NTSC
    Thanks!

The Nattress plugin works great- I would guess it looks better than less expensive hardware converters.

Snell and Wilcox is supposed to have the best quality hardware converters (lots of $):

Compressor 2 will feature standards conversions using advanced optical flow technology.
Of course nobody tried it yet.

Yes, I know about Compressor 2.
The problem is that the project has to be finished even before it comes out.

I’ve been researching and the Kramer FC 4045 looks great, but I am not sure.

Should I even risk it with the Nattress plug-in?
After the NTSC to PAL conversion, I have to encode MPEG-2 audio & video for a PAL DVD.
    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks!!

Yes, Nattress’ G Converter is so far the best software tool available in terms of quality. There’s a free utlity called JES deinterlacer which also does it, with diverse results – sometimes excellent, sometimes quite poor. It’s by far the faster one. There’s a third option called Atlantis (by DVfilm) which costs more ore less like Nattress, is maybe simpler to use but gives not-so-good results. Nattress’ is the most versatile, it doesn’t just do PAL <> NTSC but it converts PAL/NTSC interlaced to PAL/NTSC progressive and vicerversa, and finally has a dedicated plug-in for NTSC/PAL to 24P (not sure if viceversa in this case, but very likely).
G Converter’s quality IMHO is above that from “prosumer” hardware converters. In theory, Compressor 2’s *should* be the killer one, but until it ships it’s impossible to tell.
    Hope this helps.
