Try unchecking “remove duplicate frames” in the P2 import window prefs.

[JeremyG] “As far as FCP not adding 3:2, the pattern you describe is adding 2:2:2:4 which is what FCP used to do for 23.98 dv footage if your computer wasn’t fast enough to add 3:2. Perhaps there’s a setting/preference for this somewhere? I have not done the upgrade yet, obviously.”

This is only for firewire output of a 23.98 timeline

    Sean,

I agree with your findings 100%. These issues should be very troubling for professional who are invested in FCP. They point to a severe lack of understanding of very basic video knowledge on the FCP team. It’s crazy that they highly tout the new ability to mix formats, but in practice its not done correctly at all.

The scaling issues at least could and should be very easily be fixed in an update.

Maybe if enough people point this stuff out, they will get the point:

May 16, 2007 at 5:05 pm in reply to: Question for AJA: IO HD as Standalone Converter?

Thanks guys, I should have seen that other thread.

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough in my question. What I’m trying to find out is if you can set up the IO HD to be a converter box and then unplug it from your mac, turn it off take it on a shoot and have it keep doing what you set it up for in the control panel all by itself with no mac needed.

I understand the the FS-1 is a better choice for this kind of thing, but it would be nice to know that you can use your IO HD all by itself for certain specific conversions. Its also cheaper than buying an FS-1 for a simple downconvert or whatnot.

    Thanks

Cinema Tools can not add pulldown. FCP can add pulldown over firewire output only. FCP can not add pulldown to footage without outputing over firewire and re-importing from tape.

The “G Add Pulldown” filter that is part of Nattress standards conversion is the only way to add 2:3 pulldown within FCP that I know of. If you simply simply place 23.98 footage in a 29.97 time timeline you will get 2:2:2:4 pulldown which is very stuttery.

The HPX2000 is supposed to get a 24pN update. Question for Panasonic: Will you then be able to shoot 60p/50p/30p to 24pN, thus giving in camera overcranking like the $5,000 HVX.

It would be easy to take the 60 progressive frames that the HDX900 shoots and play them back at 24 fps in post.
