Is there a difference in quality between using the 1200a versus the Kona 2 when upconverting?

Is it possible to get timecode from the Varicam into FCP?

Cool. Digibeta quality and possibly smaller files than DV25! The only downside I see is no RT FX in FCP. Is that because photoJPEG use up more processor power than DV50?

September 3, 2005 at 8:37 pm in reply to: can’t see DVCPro HD on an IMAC G5 with FCP 4.5 HD

    Dimensions: 1280×720
    Codecs: DVCPRO HD vout 720p60
    Imdc, Integer (Big Endian)
    Timecode
    Channel Count: 1
    Duration: 29’58

that is what appears on the get info window for one of the clips. this footage was captured at a post house using the dvcpro deck and fcphd.

Is this info from Quicktime? You should check the properties in FCP instead, it’s more accurate. With DVCPROHD Quicktime will tell you the wrong resolution.

i downloaded the codec from apple and installed it. so what else is there?

If you can, try copying the clips to another setup that you know can play DVCProHD. Then you’ll know if the clips are bad or if it’s something with your system. Get a fast firewire drive and use the USB drive for backup.

The final cut install disk has some film leaders on it in a folder called “extras” or something like that.

What kind of image degradation happens when you capture on a laptop? Wouldn’t it just be less reliable? I don’t understand how native DVCProHD firewire capures could get degraded.

    A couple more ideas:

If it worked fine with 4.5 do an XML export from 5 and import 4.5 and capture there. Or just import the DV offline quicktimes into 4.5, recapture in 4.5 and then relink in 5.

Use capture now without device control, then modify timecode to match offlines and reconnect (not sure if this would work because of the difference in clip durations).

You could get dubs from the 24p HDCAM tapes to 29.97 HDCAM tapes. Then the timecode should match with the DV offlines.
This isn’t an ideal solution because you lose a generation, but it should work.

I would try trashing your FCP 5 preferences

    https://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/fcprescue.html

I also read that RAIDs made with Panther are slower than RAIDs made with Tiger, but only by about 10%.
