  • MiniDV to DVCPRO HD upconvert on the 1700?

Does anyone know if you can upconvert via firewire directly into FCP from the 1700? I have a bunch of MiniDV tapes and it will take forever to bump from the 1200a deck to another. I don’t have the storage to go through the Kona card?

You can go through the Kona 2 card and just capture at DVCPro HD to save on storage.

HD-SDI in to the Kona 2 using the DVCPro HD easy setup. Either K2 or the 1200A can perform the upconvert for you.

Is there a difference in quality between using the 1200a versus the Kona 2 when upconverting?

I could get it to capture uncompressed or at offline resolutions, but when going through the Kona to get the DVCPRO HD codec FCP kept crashing. Called AJA and turned out I needed a different driver. Very help full people at AJA.

Yes. I find the 1200a upconvert to be a little cleaner, but the Kona 2 upconvert feature is great if you don’t have the 1200A laying around.
