  • I have a friend editing on a macbook pro with an AJA IO-XT and a sanlink thunderbolt to fibre solution.
Everything is daisy chained but i didn’t hear him complaining so far.
His facilities have mainly mac pro’s with kona 3 or 3G cards in it. As they are waiting for new MAc Pro’s they have made a temporary transisition to macbook pro and imac with io-XT.

Also you might want to post this on the AJA IO forum. probably somebody from AJA support will respond quite quickly to your question.

if possible use the eSata connection for the drives.
as both IoHD and drives are using the same FW bus/controller this will be the bottleneck of your setup.

    prores422 will do fine.

there is a menu called loss of video. Put it on continue recording.
Coming out of a tricaster/switcher it is always saver you never know when there might be a glitch in the SDI signal.

there is also the option of using the web interface build into the kipro, setting up the kipro is that much easier this way. 🙂

2K$ monitor is not that easy to find but have a look at JVC.
17″ ex demo might fit into your budget.

here is a thread on the cow forum explaining how to do it:

I however am not recommending this, if you like a good fast GPU go for the quadro 4000 as that is supported by both Apple and Adobe.

AJA release a bulletin about it on the site, these are the lines that are important for your problem:

It is critical that both the System Preferences audio settings and the Premiere Audio Hardware preference not be set to “AJA”. If either is set to “AJA”, audio drop outs or distorted audio may occur.

To correct the issue, reset the System Preference settings and Premiere Audio Hardware preference to anything other than “AJA”, and reboot your system to correct any audio issue that may be occurring.

I’m not a big fan of onboard raid controllers, my experience is that they are not suited for video editing, they miss power and sustained speed. Go for a separate raid controller adaptec/atto.

We had a kickass HP workstation with onboard raid choking all the time, made HP swap out motherboards 2 times, CPU’s 1 time.
    No results at all.
put in a medium range adaptec raid controller and all the problems dissapeared.

Go for the Kona LHi, it has all the things you need. Got one myself, works like a charme with CS6. If you need 4K capabilities Kona3G is a good option. When you plan to patch the signals a lot you might want to consider the optional breakout box, comes in handy.
