Appart from the accoustic challenges, you’ll basically have to build a free floating room within the room.

If you’re mainly going to shoot video with spoken sound, you’re a bit better off than if you plan to recor music in there as well.

I would consider consulting an accoustic engineer to get his/her advise. And see how much of that advice you can afford… -;)

I picked myself by the neck, did some more research and finally more of my audio software works, than the bits that doesn’t.

So I’ll stay with Tiger.

For the rest, I’ll just have to find cash for upgrades…

I know this aint a workaround, but still:

To edit in mp3’s is not really the way to go. It’s a bit like editing photos as jpegs – they’ll get recompressed and worse sounding for each “save”.

I guess these are tracks of your own music – as you’re asking here.

First: Hopefully you’ve kept a copy of the original file or project. Then you can do your cuts and pastes in that and sound quality will prevail in the finished track.

If not, it depends a lot on which format you have compressed your files to.
(That is: mp3, aac. wma etc etc etc. There are litterally dozens of formats out there…)

If this is your only option to get to your own music back, you coud play around with different mediaplayers (there are a lot and I will not sugest one specific…). Quite a few can crossconvert and most likely there are tools to strip off the drm.

If you cannot get around this way, you’ll have to recapture the audio from the compressed files into an uncompressed format (wav/pcm) and start over.

But again: I cannot really figure why you would choose this route as sound quality will diminish for each crossconversion and each single “save”.

Jou should basically ve able to import them into the browser with a right-click (or controll click) – import.
Then you can drag the files into the timeline and they should scale to fill the canvas…

Deck controll is what controlls the deck or camera – thus a feature of the program.

In FCP you can set capture presets to “uncontrollable device” f.ex. to capture across narrow timecode breaks.

That is not to say you should try to avoid the problem altogether, following the suggestions from the other gentlemen. But as you obvioussly need that tiny clip, disabling deck controll might do the trick.

If you have some other way to digitize the footage (Like advc-100 or 110), you could go through the analogue out on your deck/camera and capture through that.

I’ve had to do that myself on a bad tape where the TC was totally messed up.

I’d consider recording the sound to some other gear than the Canon and just use the canon (on camera mic) audio for sync’ing purpose… (As a dummy track to sync your DAT/MD/HD recording to)

My 2 cents, but I haven’t yet been very happy with audio recorded directly into any of the DV cameras I’ve tried.

Me like the Oktavas, too, but loads of mikes will do just fine. I’d be more concerned of getting a proper recording of the input than which mike…
