  • I’ve seen the freeze-frame problem on DVD’s others have made.
    Know no workaround, though.

I do not see why you want to letterbox the project, only loosing pixels that way… And in DVDSp you can choose “Pan/Scan & Letterbox” as an option. This way the image will autimatically crop to 16:9 if needed, OR choose the full rez if that’s an option.

Do you remember to nest files and check the “mixdown audio” before you export?

If you don’t, you’ll probably have the audio hickups you describe.

    First:

Stop doing anything with that drive/raid/volume/partition!!!!

    try:

    This is Very Good!

Norton utilities are usually a no-no…

    Another:

I didn’t have much luck with this one.

November 30, 2005 at 11:57 pm in reply to: SATA Raid and Drives for New G5

I built a fairly costeffective 8 disk RAID based on the HighPoint Rocket Raid 1820A card.

Has been up for 3 months without a glitch (disregarding the sweaty minutes after upgrading to Tiger)

    Upside:
Fast, Cheap and (so far) very trustworthy.
Downside: Noisy box that needs a room of its own, but SATA cables are short…

    I built it from:
    8 WD 400Gb 7,2k disks with 16mb cache
Standard PC cabinet with power (had to short circuit the on/off circuit to make this work, as the power “expected” a mainboard.
2 extra fans for the box
    HighPoint 1820A

    Cost?
    Around 2000 – 2500 US $ in Norway
for a 3,2 TB RAID with pretty high throughput.

    Me happy.

November 30, 2005 at 11:48 pm in reply to: OS X Meltdown – HELP PLEASE!

No real help. but on what you say, I’d first of all disconnect the SCSI card(s), secondly (if that doesn’t do the trick) check the RAM by taking out all but one. Re-boot – swap – add.

Is it possible that this happend in connection with an update of your software?

Does it exist some firmware upgrade for your computer that you didn’t apply?

You could open it in Quicktime and export it as a 48khz file.
You say you have downloaded the file. If it is an mp3, you won’t loose much this way.

    Hi.

I had simmilar symptoms for a while.

Didn’t do all the things you’ve done, though.
It boiled down to some bad RAM.
When the dirt hit the portion of the RAM that was no-good, weird things happened.

but you have of course run Apple Hardware Test in extensive mode?

November 29, 2005 at 3:14 pm in reply to: I can’t run FCP on my new G5

    Out of curiosity:

    Did this work?

    Gunleik

  • I use an external box (homemead stuff from a PC cabinet with power) to run a RocketRaid 1820A external SATA RAID.(PCI-X)

    I get around 350 as a stable data-stream with 8 disks (400 GB WD’s with 16 mb cache – 7,2k disks)

But I doubt I would put all those disks inside my G5 from the same reasons as mentioned above. The box has 3 fans and have been running without a hickup now for almost 3 months. Needs a separate room, though, due to extensive noise…

    I think I paid roughly = 2500 – 3000$ for the 3.2 TB setup in Norway.

So far – just good experiences.

The new G5’s specifically do not run any version of FCP prior to 5. Your new delicious machine has a PCI-E graphics card and not an AGP.

This is a mess. But this is the mess…
