  • Creating QT or DVD causes problems not seen in timeline

    Hello everyone,

I am using the latest version of Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro. I have an anamorphic project that I just completed and plays fine from the timeline.

I have to create a 4:3 DVD to play in a festival. Deadline is of course coming quick. I created a new 4:3 sequence, dragged my anamorphic sequence to the canvas of the new 4:3 sequence and chose overwite. I followed all of the instructions and got the correct 4:3 letter boxed format but I also have a problem with a freeze frame behaving badly in both the QT and DVD as well as some music fading out. None of this is a problem in the timeline. Below is a summary of the problems I am having. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Neobe

    So, in summary:
4:3 sequence played on the computer in Final Cut: No freeze frame problem, and no music fade out problem

The freeze frame problem does not happen in the QT, it only happens after buring a DVD.

What are you using to author/burn your DVD?

I would suggest using Export>Using Compressor from FCP, then setup your compression in Compressor, and I’d leave it 16:9 if you have DVDSP. From there bring your MPEG that Compressor created into DVDSP. You can select “Force to Letterbox” from within DVDSP, and you can skip that 4:3 sequence step altogether.

    Just a thought…

Also, I would suggest to uncheck the make movie self contained button if you are compressing from the same computer as you edit.

I’ve seen the freeze-frame problem on DVD’s others have made.
    Know no workaround, though.

I do not see why you want to letterbox the project, only loosing pixels that way… And in DVDSp you can choose “Pan/Scan & Letterbox” as an option. This way the image will autimatically crop to 16:9 if needed, OR choose the full rez if that’s an option.

Do you remember to nest files and check the “mixdown audio” before you export?

If you don’t, you’ll probably have the audio hickups you describe.
