You cannot go wrong with Genelec audio monitors. They’re very good and reliable and used all over broadcast here in Norway at least.
I am quite confused of how to accesss the SDI audio signal and use e.g. an AJA og BM device for audio mix and mastering with or without an external AD/DA.
The audio is embedded in the video signal on the SDI connection, right?
Then what?

Well, there are folks claiming to have received it over at the BM COW…
That said, the backlog is probably not as bad as with the Panny HVX-200, but I guess it still is pretty bad.

Just uncheck the “self contained movie” option in the export window, (after you have nested your sequence and mixed down audio and othervise readied your sequnce).
Beware, the reference files are exactly that, so you may like to mixdown a selfcontained file for archieving and later use, if that is relevant.

You might get confused beacause these drives are usually (or at least quite often) called IDE drives.
They are by and large still the most common drives out there.I’m not usually buying my drives in the US, but here’s a link. -;)

You should definitely have a didicated media drive with FCP 5

You don’t need two monitors, but it’s very comfortable and handy!
You should consider an external broadcast monitor or at least a TV for viewing your cuts in. You couleither use your deck/camera as a D/A converter or use something like the Canopus ADVC 110

Depends which mixer and what kind of i/o you have on it (like the video cards…)I am still trying to find out what exactly SDI audio out means. Which format is it? What kind of D/A’s may I use?
I am so greatfull for all clarifications. There are nowhere to go and look at stuff where I am.
And so far no reply from AJA users in PAL land.

Hm… Sounds like you’ve set your mind.
As of the G5, any will do actually.Buy the biggest and baddest you can afford, that’s the one that’s going to serve you the longest.
Just remember to pop in at least 1 gb of RAM and a second HD (for media) and you’ll be up and running.

If you’re going to make the disc in iDVD, I think you’ll have to encode the DV file in that program, too.
The Compressor route is only a viable option if you’re creating the disc in DVDSP

If you’re going with iDVD, just import your DV movie into iDVD and go.
If you’re going with DVD studio pro, either import the DV directly into DVDSP or export via compressor.
The rest is in the manual.
