Speaking on a technical sense, no, you have no rights to it at all.
That said, it is common to not only highlight your work, but to say who it was for on your reel. Commercial music is often used as well, again with no rights to it. You are not selling the web clips or your reel on DVD so it’s not considered unethical.

I have always been impressed by the looks the guys who do ESPN Classic get. From metal shavings sprinkled around the frame, to the constructed backgrounds, to the iris changes done within the camera, not as a plugin… it’s an art. Makes it delightful to edit. It’s amazing how much turd-polishing we end up doing in post so when somthing trickles in that is beautiful on it’s own, it really stands out to me.
That’s what I’d do tho. Create actual little scenes out of a series of photos with relevant backgrouds, all lit pretty-like and shot with love.
Lots of fun to be had with this.

you can nest an animatte effect on there and use it along with spectrakey. Animatte lets you draw your mask any shape you like and keyframe any shape changes you may need. I use it alot for custom transitions.

Sue, you’d be best off doing this in After Effects, just for that alpha channel reason.

    oh no no
I’m talking about a regular old 720 project. Just the buggy firewireness.
I gave up on trying to do HD on ths thing a long time ago. Drag. It’s one of the reasons I bought it.
So, with the converter, I could I edit in HQ and actually get to see it when played? I thought it was goofy that I could only play it in half quality but I could export a finished 1081 project I had never gotten to watch.
    lol
I also have had no luck trying to utilize 1080 footage in a 720 project with the ability to pan/resize it w/o losing anything.

best of luck, Paul. I know how it feels so hang in there.
Honestly, we feel the burn so much when things like this happen because for so long we have been able to take our Avid stabilty for granted. I remember having a section on the project sheet in the linear days FOR down time. Just seemed to be part of the workflow.

have you deleted your database files? If not, do it and let Avid rebuild em for you.
You may also try letting avid rebuild your OMFI folder(s) from scratch by renaming your current OMFI folder(s) and capturing a clip. You can then drag your media from the old renamed folder to the newly created one. Solves lots of problems sometimes.
Are you using Medea drives by chance? I found em to be a nightmare, losing medi all the time and not being able to recover it. Made me work several 36 hour shifts off the clock. I finally threw em in the dumpster and got Avid drives. I’d still lose media from time to time but was alwas able to get it back with the technique I described above.
You may also wanna check for a virus. Sometims scanning of your drives while working can cause this.
