if it’s within 24 hours, it’s often hard not to bill for it. That said, my biggest client represents too much of my income to ever do this to. They do cancel on me from time to time. It happens. In the name of the relationship, I just eat it and they make up for it later. Thats the key. Will it be made up? If so, water off a ducks back. Enjoy the day. If they were a one-off client, I’d bill a half day with only one day’s notice. If they cancelled that moring, I’d bill the whole day. I have never had to do this. Again, my only offender has enough quantity that these rare things can be overlooked.

changing names is never a good idea. It’s a do over with a new company name.
Since it is your name, it’s not quite as much of a do over but you should think about what it is you want your company to become. If it’s a one man band, there is no reason not to just keep it simple. If it’s a big facility with a mess of gear and boatload of artists, you should name it, not you.
I can tell you if you market yourself to other production companies, they will often feel threatened by a company name but not your name. If you are marketing yourself to ad agencies, they may be less impressed by the one man band vibe. I think it depends on what you want to become.

it seems to me if your old bosses are not cuttin the mustard, you should fire em. I mean if yer gonna start selling, may as well be for your own company right? Then you can pay yourself the salary you feel you deserve.
What I’m saying is as an artist, you should not stay at a place you do not feel appriciated at. You have to feel appriciated to do a better job than the dudes down the road a bit. If ya do, ya do a great job, making them more money and making raises a possibility for all. If ya don’t, and it doesn’t sound like ya do, tell em you need more jack or yer splittin. Pretty simple stuff, really. If they feel you are worth it they will anty up. No good bidness man likes to let valuable assets be scooped up by competition. If they say they just can’t do it, maybe that place down the road a bit can.
The bottom line is you can stick your chest out if you can walk the walk. Ya can’t if ya just talk the talk.

Congrats on getting a paying gig just outta school. My first gig paid 3.35 an hour and my second paid much less as I was on salary at 18k a year working 70 hour weeks. I didn’t break into the 30s for years.

I never made a habbit of staying where I wasn’t wanted. If I felt over worked and under paid, I assumed they wanted me to bail and I did just that. I never griped, especially in meetings. One is either glad to be there or one isn’t. I have only had to fire one person in my lifetime. The rest, like me, knew when it was time to move on. Maye you should drop a hint.
It’s very hard for artists to work for the boss’s son. If he knew the deal coming into this, it’s his bad but if a fence has been built around a wild stallion, he’ll always kick it down and run.

just capture in a regular 720X486 project. Your deck/camera will be able to down convert it for you or you can use a resize effect. If it was shot 720, it’s already letterboxed anyway right?

you can use a quicktime with the animation or sorenson3 codec and it’ll work fine.
Otherwise you can download the proper Avid codec with a search on Avid’s site.

yu can shrten your preroll time to a second and see if that’ll let ya capture all the clips as is.
Otherwise, you can do as you mentioned and crash record/capture with tc turned off then throw that on a new seqyence by itslef, raw. Change your tc number on the sequence to match it’s original tc number on the raw tape(s) then use that sequence as a source.
It’s cheating but it works.
