I always create the music bed and vo first. I write whats needed and I have my good friend Jim jakala at https://www.radioandtv.cc do almost every vo I ever need. He has such a great variety in reads I just don’t have to go anywhere else. I get alot of my sound effects from https://www.sounddogs.com
Wooshes and things like that are what I use the most for bboth text and transitions. I create the entire piece, knowing what sound on tape I am going to use and where, knowing this is totally subject to change. I’m building the vibe, basicly but a good editor knows when to follow the piece and not stand fast on leading it. In other words, sometimes something maical happens that ya just didn’t plan. THIS is where art comes in. Everything else is technique. Sometimes less really is more and just like an oil painting, you can really screw up something golden if you over work it.
I then do what was mentioned above, utilize the hilights without giving anything away but ensuring intrest is created. I have the music swells all ready and everything and it’s just a matter of back timing some things. This goes really quick. I have seldom taken over a day to produce an entire trailer, assuming I don’t have to animate or composite much. This is usually already done within the stuff I am making the trailer out of ya know?
and again as mentioned, have fun! If you aint havin fun makin it, it aint gonna be fun watchin it.

Which Avid product are you on? This may have alot to do with things. If it’s XpressPro, that really does offer some bang for the buck. It’s Adrenaline I have a beef with. I love DS but feel it’s over priced. I often feel like Avid is trying to force those of us coming from Meriden-based smphonies to that price point because everything else is they offer now is a down grade from where we were. DS certainly would be a step up but being a one man band, it’s current price tag is out of reach. I selected Adrenaline largely based on my being able to hop right on it and not interrupt workflow, it’s price and the capabibilities Avid advertises. I paid no more than I thought I would so thats no gripe. The interface is the same so again, no surprises. It’s just not ready for release to this day in my humble opinion. I think it would make a fine application in the $10k range after a few more updates/bug fixes.
That said, you’ll not hear me say anything bad about my vendor. They are awesome. They bend over backwards to please and they too have fallen victim to what many percieve as shinanigans. Prolly why they offer FCP now.

At this point, it really does look like revaluating the price of DS is the best way to respond to consumer demand. I don’t see their next in line product being capable of hanging with FCP any time soon. When people are offlining on symphony and onlining on FCP, somthings kind of wack. DS is sound, proven and capable. It’s just out of reach for most due to it’s price point. If Avid were to start selling these for 40k and lower Adenaline’s price to a place where it isn’t as offensive to work around the bugs they may hang on to some clientele.
They’ll always sell boxes of software off store shelves. I don’t think this is where the gripe is.

where are these files coming from?
have you tried re rendering them in AE?
I know this is the third time in three threads I have suggested this but a nice clean QT with the proper avid codec often solves alot of issues.
I have gotten this error with certain avi files and making a fresh quicktime fixed me up.

The fact that it’s not constant is puzzling.
I hate to lean on the old faithful but have you tried importing it into AE? If it plays fine, maybe you can re render a new QT.
Programs like Virtual Dub can do this as well, if you don’t have AE.
Perhaps it’s a 44.1/48k thang?

if you open your command pallete, you can mouse over the icons and they’ll tell ya what they are. If this doesn’t happen, you can turn this on in your settings. It helps in trying to memorize their icons.

Sometimes a glitch gets saved in your settings, hence having to ditch em and rebuild em. I wish I knew why this was happening to ya. I know it’s frustratig when something finally starts working right but ya learned nothing.
The new Avid is kind of like a chick. Sometimes they are just in a bad mood.

well, is DVD your final format? I know it’s bogus but is it possible to live with it in playack and then just burn the DVDs?
still just stabbing in the dark here.
what if you first bring these files into After Effects and re render to your liking? That’d work if you have the time.
