You can render a quicktime that’ll import from there. VirtualDub is good for this kind of thing too. -

Avid media log is cool cuz it creates actual bins you can batch from. -
I use the CMX3600 edl. It’s clean and generic. Just make sure your reel names ae 5 characters or less and that you hav used no more than4 audio tracks. (and of course, no filters or plugins)
If you used all 8 audio tracks just export the other 4 as a seperate edl. -
BCC has one. You can always just use the one in after effecs too.

ADD kept me from reading every word but you summed it up yourself. You had bad vibes from him from the get-go. Don’t do bidness with people ya get these vibes from. Walk away, run away or let voice mail take their calls but life is too short to do great work for somone you hope will appriciate it.

I had a grinder that simply could not come in without trying to leave with a freeby. He first started trying to charge it to his client and then trying to make me eat it. Dude represented 6 figures of my income so it was real easy to “suck it up” for a long time. It endied burn out and I just didnt like working for him anymore. Simple enough. I just stopped doing that.
I had another client that wa relativly famus and the every project I did for him made t to my reel because it was so glamoros or high end. The thing was, nobdy else in town would work for him because he was such a tirant in the suite. I’m a people person. I can get along with anybody but his dude really enjoyed belittling people. Again, easy to suck up for a while, impossible to do it forever. One day he decided to chunk a beta tape at a brother. Just before it hit me in the face, I raised my hand and the corner of it cut my wrist.
I let him know that at that point I was not an editor but a man and that because I could run faster than he could, he should get started right freakin now.
My point is the customer is not always right. As a metter of fact, they seldom are, which is why they come to experts. I have found doing business with only people you elect to mks for a better environment both at work and then at home and of course makes for a better product, which then feeds your bottom line in the long run.
Listen to those little voices when ya meet someone. They are ALWAYS correct. This is a built in defense sense that should not be ignored. -

editing aint like cookin’.
Cooking is an additive process. You’ll see shef types add stuff in pinches and smidgens. Editing has undos and stuff. awesome.
Man, I grab whats usable and chunk it on a timeline. I then look at my duration of everything and weigh it against my targeted total running time. I then go though subtractivly until I’m on time.
I’ll make another pas for music and transitions and tweek where needed to gt my time right on and then one more pass for layers of love. Effects, colorcreativity, wild hairs, ect.
Bam! -
I’d like an auomated drive through. Like not have to talk over the dude’s car in front of me, hope I’m not yelling too loud, too soft or gettin my order all jacked on a count of my thick accent. Just push a button, add some options and get a total. Yes, this takes out all the personal interaction that use to pull people to dine but it’s much more efficiant in the assembly line of life.

My view on automated editing is the same way. Voice recognition will most certainly replce many editors. Don’t think it won’t As sure as I am sitting here it surely will. It will not repace an artist though. The thread above mentions editors dabblng in the artistry of 3D. While automations will grace the 3D world as well, there will always be a place foran artist to stitch visuals together and enhance with a personal touch.
That said, dude I better see some freakin bug fixin goin on at Avid before I get presorted bins based on what the little man in the drive through window thinks someone said. -
I have found that half of editors love graphic work and half don’t. Half of the hlaf who dig graphics are intrugued by 3D enough to tear into it. I learned on SoftImage. I’m not a manual kind of guy but there was no way around going through some tutorials. I changed em on my own as I went… you know, a peace sign for a sphere here and an imported texture for a stocker there. I had to do it this was because I just wasn’t use to the interface yet. Once I was, it was like butta, not unlike hopin into AE for some animated text while editing.
I’ve used Lightwave, SoftImage, 3Dsmax, C4D and a handful of prosumer level apps and it’s really just a matter of investing some time and focus.
