I’ve been told that Avid doesnt allow you to import mpegs, and if it does, then it simply doesnt like my files. is there anything i can do? i dont want to convert it as i risk quality loss. An alternative would be to layer it onto tape, but i have no idea how to do that. Please help!!

can ya import em into AE?
You can render a quicktime that’ll import from there. VirtualDub is good for this kind of thing too.

I use transcoding applications like Sorenson or Cleaner to transcode to QT, then import mpegs into Avid. Minimal quality loss.
