I guess the first and most obvious question is why?
I didn’t do alot of flatbed cutting. It was more of a novelty thing when I did it than a requirement. I found it to be very cool tho. Wasn’t hard. Nothing really technical about it. a couple of roller handles, a razor bade and some tape. There is an art to it, like every craft.

nowadays you can throw yer media and yer project on a firewire drive and bring it home.
Copy the media into your omfi folder and put your project where ya want and you are good to go. Great for offlining. I do it with dv25 stuff all the time. I dont try to edit to or from that drive, it’s just a media-toter. -

It may depend on how bad ya want it.
Sounds like you have plenty of access to stock footage.
It’s a matter of setting a goal and finding ways to get there. I use to make little music videos out of whatever was in the box. I’d think of an effect and attack it with what I had in front of me. Trial and error. time in the chair.
No matter what dvds, tutorials or instructors ya hang with, you’ll have to put in the time. -
I use sapphire and bcc glows for this. You are on the right track with the tools you have. Stacking some color effects and some defocus will do wonders. Cut on, 3 frame dissolve out, 2 frame dissolve in, cut out. You can keep it random how ya use it. Stackin some together in spots, using only one quick one elsewhere.

as John said, it limits the import to 720X486 (unless it’s a DS). They will need to be comfortable with the freedoms of after effects to utilize the larger file.
I’m sure anything you could do to properly frame the shots in a 720X486 world would be much appriciated by the editor. -
