maya will import your x,y,and Z perameters as well as camera information. It’s just a matetr ug using the right sensors/trackers. I dunno how much action your talent is doing but you may just be able to motion track the new melon on him or her. Angle and action will depict this.
also, AE now imports motion control files for it’s camera. Just an fyi… may make things easier.

    thank ya, brother.
It already has. In attempt to weed some clientele, I raised my rate 50 percent this year. While I counted on that aquiring more free time for me to persue labors of love, so far it has just resulted in a 50% pay raise.
That’s fine too. Early retirement will give me plenty of time to dream and wonder.
supply and demand is a funny thing. Pull back on supply and some see a great increase in demand. Truth is, I am not required in anybody’s workflow. They just think I am.

  • do you use the force?
I’d love to know how often insticts are followed more than the script.

Do you sneak your own cut on the side?
Satisfaction is why we do this gig. Just wondering what kind of stash the average A flick editor has.

Do you cut in your sleep?
we all do but it’s always fun to hear examples from others.

    Your favorite kind of director?
do you take charge or are you a media procerssor?

can you watch tv or other movies?
without going crazy or driving your wife crazy?

are you a closet director like the rest of us?

whats your favorite flavor to cut?

what made you become an editor?
(and don’t let em tell ya they aspired to be one… editors are editors becuase somone paid em to edit as they climbed ladders and it stuck. 😉

    whats your toll prefrences?

hows the big switch from avid going?

    will you miss Avid?

ok, will yu miss the old Avid?

when was the last time you said “sure, I can work saturday.” when you meant “hell, no, man.”

do get a lump in your throat every time you watch a movie (any movie) at the theatre because in a far off thought that will be your movie up there one day?

what are yur personal thoughts of the union?
    honestly?

I begin additively in the beginning too. I am just very liberal with it that first pass. I get a lot of ideas by throwing all the contents of the recipe on the table and lookin around before mixing.
Bottom line is it’s not a one size fits all world. What we do on what project may not apply next go ’round.

    2010
dude, did I fall asleep for two years?

I have handed the adrenaline down to the kids by then. They’ll surf the net, load games on it and laugh at it’s old school ways, picturing me going out to get water from the well in the days that I billed on it.
I’ll be on one of their wiz bang best-buy badboy computers makin’ some sweeet video. I better be freakin retired by then, whatever that is. I don’t have enough hair to do another decade.
If only I had started out with Bob’s hair.

you’d be surprised how many editors still work linearly, even in a non-linear world.
I have had clients tell me that I am twice as fast as other editors in town. Then in hangin with those editors and talking shop, I find that they build what they think is a finished show from the top. Some admit to milking the clock when doing this and others just do it because thats how they did it back in the record each event to a tape daze.
Either case is dangerous. We have talked about the lack of experience in some of today’s producers but all producers, no matter how much experience they have, know a painful drawn-out session when they are victim to one.

It’s prolly quickest to just prebuild your tag graphics in photoshop. Upi’ll find you’ll often build kind of a library… “Tuesday at 7 Easter,… Thursday at 7 Eastern,” ect.
Coming from Avid your prolly use to having it open constantly anyway. You can save any DVE moves for your tags then just copy/paiste each spot and drop in the new grafik/vo.

  • You will find HQ mode reduces realtime effects signigicantly. I’ve never been able to edit in anything other than HQ mode so I’ve just gotten use to rendering as I go.
