You might try to build a matte to reveal the mosaic.-

Drop the mosaic into photoshop as the background.
Create a single BLACK rectangle the size of one image of the mosaic.
duplicate that layer(79 more)and distribute it until the entire image is covered.
Turn off the background mosaic image.
Save the full black image, randomly turn off the layers one at a time and save each image, as you turn off the layers white rectangles should appear, if they don’t create a new white layer just above the background layer.
Give them all the same name and number them sequentially XXXXX_001.tif etc that way you can import the sequence into vegas set the still duration to what ever you want the timing to be.
Place this layer above the mosaic image, set the mosaic image as the compositing child of the (Matte Layer) black and white sequence.
Set the compositing mode of the matte layer(B/W Sequence) to multiply. You might need to apply an Invert filter to the B/W track if it is revealing the wrong way.
Put your full images in a third track above these composited tracks and use pan and crop to zoom them into place.

the big advantage to using a matte is that you can apply effects to the whole reveal sequence or you can modify the individual frames as needed

examples: to apply a vingnet(sp.) to the mosaic images just apply a blur filter to the matte layer. If you want the mosaic images to reveal at irregular time intervals just shrink or expand the edges of the stills in the Matte sequence with the ripple edit button on.

Just another idea of how to get from point A to point B.

Best of luck, I did a test created about 10 squares took less than 5 mins. make a quick matte sequence.

Shane tried changing to Composite y and SDI. Did not work!

Tried an older driver version. Did not work!

Now I’m waiting for a response from BMD. It’s going on two days.

    Shane

Control Panel Decklink is set as follows:
    Output: SDI&Analog Y,B-Y,R-Y
Input: SDI Video & SDI Audio

I currently have BNC Cables connected to the component in on my TV using a BNC to RCA adapter with BNC Cables. I’m wondering if there is no display because the Black Magic card is trying to output a progressive signal ????? The TV won’t support that.

Should I change the Output to SDI & Analog NYSC/PAL (Y Out) and then go into the TV using a single Composite Cable(Yellow input on the TV)?

Which cable do I connect to coming out of the BM Card?

    I appreciate your help.

Maybe this should be a new post but It’s kindof along the same line. I just purchased a HD Pro single link. I’m trying to monitor(temporarily) to a standard TV with RCA Component inputs should I just get a BNC to RCA cable? I tried one but I don’t appear to be recieving any signal from the DeckLink card.

[Jeremy Rochefort] “My belief is to try and future proof yourself as much as is possible in this ever changing technology world and maybe I’m trying too hard! But I’m damn sure gonna give it a good bash.”

I didn’t get the impression you were bashing the BM cards. I just wanted too know if you had heard something I hadn’t about the cards. I in fact maybe building a new system, so that may not actually be a concern.

You can never try too hard to future proof, that is generally called prudence, and usually it is the intelligent people who exercise it. I believe that is the whole point of this forum, to learn from other’s experiences.

As always your input is appreciated.

How is the calibration done on the Dell 2405. All the stuff I”ve read about studio monitors, says there are extra adjustment controls on the studio monitors for calibration. Would an Apple cinema display have better color calibration? Yeah, it’s about a grand more than the Dell but, it’s money better spent if you don’t have color issues when you deliver to clients.

I’ve also heard the black magic cards work well for monitoring. Vegas is supposed to be well integrated for use with the black magic cards and it is supposed to allow auto switching between HD and SD. Please let me know if I’m miss understanding their advertisements.

My Nephew worked at a Post facility that was using the Black Magic link. Maybe I’ll see if he can get me in to talk with them to get some more feed back. I know they’ve been using it in production for over a year.

Jeremy, you said, “I am biased against the Blackmagic since what I have read so far hasn’t impressed me.” Is it just that it was not impressive or have you heard some negative feedback on the cards? Also, can you monitor the HDV on a 720 monitor even though it’s not pixel for pixel?

I have to say I love this forum because you cut through all the ad hype and actually get R/W feedback. I appreciate everyones input.

    Thanks,

November 26, 2005 at 10:30 am in reply to: Can not get Vegas to record from a microphone

    Joseph,

You probably need to set your recording hardware in windows.

Right click the speaker(volume) icon in the task bar, click “adjust audio properties”, Click the “audio” tab, select your sound card from the drop down menu. There may only be one to select. Click “Volume” make sure the select check box under microphone is checked. Slide the volume slider up. That should do it.

Some sound cards Do Not support recording. I have an Avance AC97 in my lap top that works and I have never had a problem using any of the Creative Sound blaster cards. Good Luck.

I believe Black Magic has a product that will do the DV/SD HD switching like you are looking for.

A general rule is get a second hard drive for video capture, 250GB(about $100 extra) is usually a good starting point. Try to get a system that doesn’t have the video card built into the MB. I’m not sure if Vegas makes use of Open GL so that may or may not be a consideration.

I’m a little bit pro HP.(That is just an opinion)
